Community Application Reflection

I have currently resided in Olmsted Township since May of 2015. Previously I lived in Elyria going to Lorain County Community College. I moved to Olmsted Township to be closer to Central School of Practical Nursing. When I was growing up I moved around very frequently. We never lived in one place for more than a year. I grew up around the Akron area until I moved up to the Cleveland area my sophomore year in high school. I am honestly very glad my family moved away from the Akron area to Avon. Since I was moving around frequently I was not able to look into what my community had to offer. This project has made me realize how much my community has to offer for all age types. Olmsted Township is a very small town it was first settled in 1814 originally known as Kingston then Lenox. The name was changed in 1845 to Olmsted Falls which then broke into two towns (Olmsted Township and Olmsted Falls). Olmsted Township is 10.00 square miles with only 13,575 residents in the town (2010 census). (Economic Development). Olmsted township is “approximately 15 miles southwest of Downtown Cleveland, three miles southwest of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, three miles west of Interstate 71 and two miles south of Interstate 480” (Economic Development). With Olmsted Township being so close to the highway, major city and international airport it is easy for a person living in the town to get access to community programs. As of 2014, “The median age is 41.3. [...] 58.80% of people in Olmsted Township are married. 11.98% are divorced [...] 94.29% of people are white, 2.30% are black, 3.03% are asian, 0.00% are native american, and 0.00% claim ‘other’. 2.27% of the people in Olmsted Township, Ohio, claim hispanic ethnicity.” (Olmsted township, Ohio People 2014). In Olmsted Township the main ages that reside in the community are between 25 to 54. Having “age 25 to 34 - 10.88%, age 35 to 44 - 15.81%, and age 45 to 54 - 15.98%” (Olmsted township, Ohio People 2014). All other age groups are under the 10th percentile range. Olmsted Township’s school system is connected to the Olmsted Falls district. The school system has an early childhood center, primary school, intermediate school, middle school and a high school. (Our Mission 2016). The education in Olmsted Township was a bit surprising to me. The percent of the population with “some high school education is 4.40%, high school education 30.90%, some college education is 22.9%, 2 year college graduate is 6.80%, 4 year college graduate is 20.87%, masters graduate 10.82%, professional degree is 1.51% and doctorate degree is 0.40%” (Olmsted Township, Ohio people, June 2014). With easy access to the highway and Cleveland near by I thought that there would be more people going to college or getting college degrees. Olmsted Township is a small town, I expanded my search to Olmsted Falls for community run programs for the residents. …show more content…

In this reservation there are a few trails, water fountain and a small park for exercise.
For working families with small children there are a few day care centers in the area; Kidsfirst Learning Center, Olmsted Falls Early Childhood Center and Childtime. Kidsfirst learning center is located in Olmsted Falls it is a montessori-based learning environment, which is for children ages 6 weeks to 10 years of age. “This program provides a full-day program monday thru friday, before-and-after school programs for grades K-5, and summer camp for children up to 10 years of age.” (Welcome to KidsFirst Learning Center, 2016). I consider my hometown to be Grand Forks, North Dakota. I was born at the former United Hospital in Grand Forks in 1994, and have lived here for my entire life—with the exception of about a year spent in Walhalla, North Dakota, due to the flood of 1997. The schools that I attended while growing up are all within fifteen minutes of driving from my current house. My parents live just 6.2 miles away from me. Although Grand Forks is my city of birth, it wasn’t until I started college that I really considered it my hometown.…

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. I never would have imagined the progress and success I've had with my senior project. My interest has stayed the same but I wouldn't think that I would have County Commissioners and a House of Representative present at my event.…

Medicine fascinated me even when I was a child. I remember being about eight years old when my pediatrician asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Without hesitation, I told him I wanted to be a doctor. I view medicine as discovery, the chance to learn the science surrounding the human body and develop the skills that will allow me to heal others. As I entered college, I pursued experiences that exposed me to the world of medicine, becoming more involved within my community and university.…
