My Commemorative Speech: My Uncle, Robin Speedie

Improved Essays
In my commemorative speech I was able to commemorate my uncle, Robin Speedie. As I was looking through my speech video cast I noticed strengths and areas I could improve in. My strengths in my speech are: (1) My body language. I moved around the room, not staying in the same position. Also, moving my hands while giving my speech and making a connection with the audience by laughing at my own stories and showing eye contact to the audience. (2) Voice Fluency. I was actually surprised by this. As I was looking through my speech, my voice was not like a robot. My voice went high and low. The fluency of my voice matched with what I was saying in my speech. For example, when I asked a question I raised my eyebrows, made eye contact, and my voice was high. When recalling memories from my past, I still had eye contact but you could see the events happening before my eyes. (3) Providing facts and information. We didn’t need to make …show more content…
Aside from having strong strengths I still had some things to work on. Some of these are: (1) Volume of my voice. I noticed when watching my speech video cast that some parts of my speech were hard to hear. I should have raised my voice at the parts of the speech. This was a personal error. I thought I was speaking loud enough but it’s important that I keep that in mind. (2) Changing my position. I wished I could have moved more towards the center of the room. The reason why is because I faced my group of classmates, not to the entire room. It probably could have made my speech better and would have been easier to work on my body language. (3) Repeating words. Since I didn’t have an outline with me on stage, I was basing my entire speech off my memory. When I was giving my presentation, I didn’t realize that I was repeating some words or sentences over and over. For example, “we wanted to visit him. Sadly, sadly he didn’t let us.” This only happened in a few parts of the speech but something I do want to work

Delivering the Pet Peeve speech was on the whole a relaxed and enjoyable experience. When the assignment was first issued, I felt a bit reluctant to deliver the speech; I’m only friends with a handful of students in the class, and probably disliked by the rest, so I couldn’t be confident in having a receptive audience. Due to my previous experience public speaking during coffee houses however, my apprehension was easily surmountable. I believe these types of opportunities to perform in front of a crowd on a limited scale are an excellent skill builder for affairs later in life, be it an impromptu toast at a dinner party, or reciting your wedding vows. As far as preparation goes, my approach was casual: I practiced delivering my speech two or three times on a timer, doing my best to fall within 10 seconds of the 3 minute mark.…

I barely had any influx in the volume of my voice, nor did I made any facial expressions. Due to this, this detracted my credibility towards the audience since what I was saying did not match with the tone of my voice. If I had made my presentation more dynamic, the listener would have been more interested in what I had to say and be more engaged. Additionally, if I was more animated where I wanted to emphasize on topics, the listeners would have paid more attention to that information that I have given, and realize that it is important. The tones and facial expressions are important because it shows your attitude and feelings towards the topic, so when it was missing in my presentation, they could not get the same enthusiasm I had towards the topic, and therefore could not relate as easily.…

When I was a child when someone asked me, "What are you going to be when you grow up?" My answer was always, "I am going to be a nurse. " When I attended college the first time, my answer became, "I 'm not sure what I want to be." Right out of high school making the decision of what you are going to do for the rest of your life is scary, so I juggled back and forth from teaching and nursing. I eventually decided to take a break for a while until I knew what I needed to do.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

This informative speech could have been improved with more body movement during the transitions and a good eye contact with the…

Final Field Project For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
