My College Search Essay

When I first started my college search I was only looking at small Pennsylvania schools, just like most of my peers. College was a big deal since my mom and dad both could not attend and my family always thought I would be the one who could do it. The University Of Arizona was actually my moms idea at first, she wanted me to get away from everything that kept people here in Philadelphia poor and miserable. I was not so sure at first because no one I knew was applying here, but I realized I had to do what was best for me and …show more content…
I want to help people and do something that matters, protect the public and stop injustice. I want to carve out a different path for myself and be able to live comfortably without worrying about where my next meal is going to come from. The day I got accepted here and received the Arizona Excellence Award was one I will not forget, my extended family is big and we are all very close and pretty much your typical Philadelphia Italian family and that day a lot of us shed tears of joy. The out of state tuition is daunting but I know my mother would give everything she has for me to be able to have this opportunity. As the days get closer to when I can finally move to Tuscon my only concern is that I will be in debt for the rest of my life. My Pell-Grant and Excellence award certainly help but my loans are still very steep. This scholarship will help me lighten that load so that I can finally make my family proud and get out of this viscous cycle that I have seen consume so many. There is nothing I want more than to pursue my future at the University Of Arizona and receive a degree in criminal justice

Throughout my years in high school he’d always try to persuade me to go to this school by telling me stories of his time there along with the amazing opportunities that came with it. All I can say is that his nagging worked, he, at one point, had me convinced.…
