Reflective Essay On Pursuing A Degree In Elementary Education

Improved Essays
Three years ago I began my college journey here at Colorado Christian University focusing on a degree in Elementary Education and today I am almost finished with only two classes remaining. When I signed up for classes I was sure I knew what I wanted to study, I had a plan and could see it. Wow, was I mistaken! Here I am, three years later about to graduate with a degree in Biblical Studies, far different than what I had originally signed up for, and I couldn’t be happier with where God has taken me. Jeremiah 29:11 states: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (NKJV) Plans are ideas that take us on journeys through paths that we never intend and …show more content…
I was learning so much and felt a strong desire to keep going, I realized that I love learning, in a certain way I actually crave the challenge. It was about this time I decided to pursue a Certificate in Biblical Studies alongside of my degree in Education. I added the necessary classes and finished my Certificate which opened up an opportunity for me at a local church to serve as a part time Children’s Director. Previously, I had led a youth group at church in an interim position and loved every moment of it, and now the goal of serving in a Church position was a reality. The classes that I had taken to obtain my certificate gave me the knowledge and ability to teach children more confidently and share many of the fundamental teachings that I had learned at …show more content…
Working in an Elementary School for the majority of my college career I learned that this was not the place that God wanted me to be. I loved working at the school and I am so thankful for all that it taught me, but working at the church was where I felt fulfilled. With much prayer and consideration I changed my major and placed my focus on obtaining a degree that would someday allow me to work full-time in ministry. God had a plan and that goal was achieved this past March when I was offered a position as an Associate Children’s Pastor. This meant leaving the school and the church that launched my career, which was by no means an easy decision, but through it all I could see the signs unfold that it was exactly in the plan for my life. I am happy to report I love my job! I never thought my goal would be fulfilled so soon and still feel as though it is all a

There was a time in middle school where we had an assignment, we would discuss where we saw ourselves in twenty years and devise a plan in order to reach our goal. I put down that I wanted to be a teacher and told myself that it was my dream job, until my teacher took my paper and told me to do more research on this job. I learned the harsh truth and quickly changed what I wanted to be because of what I learned from my research. I was able to recognize that what I wanted to do with my learning was my choice and my teacher was there to guide me, not control me. She could of easily told me that it was the wrong choice and to choose another career…

Any rich story weaves in symbolism and foreshadowing. This enhances the meaning of the narrative, gives the audience clues to the future, and sets the stage for multiple themes. The drama of the Bible checks all of these boxes and then some. Although there are many characters in the first formative years of Israel’s existence, the character of Joshua, leads Israel into a temporary Promised Land, which foreshadows the role that Jesus plays in the unfolding narrative. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

To tell about a life experience that will impact my education and drive me through my educational journey could be a simple statement of how I would want to better myself, be a stronger provider for my family or maybe even so I could impact lives through a new field of work. If I were to tell you these things, I would be lying. The driving force for this decision is not my own. Since I was a young girl I have always done as I was told from my parents, get a job, graduate High School, go to college, grow up and get married and have children. I have done this with one exception; I never graduated.…

I have been teaching swim lessons to elementary school children for the past three years, and I have also volunteered as a camp councilor at a church camp where I would supervise my camp group and teach a bible lesson once per day. In addition to these examples, this summer I was hired to be a para-educator for special education summer school at BOCES where I worked with eleven middle school students for six weeks. Currently, my confidence is level high as I have been doing well in all of my classes, in track, and I am lucky enough to receive support and be surrounded by positive friends, buy when it comes to public speaking I still can become nervous.…
