My College Admissions Essay: My Journey To Success

I was born in Germany with a German mother and an American father. The benefit of being born into a German family and living in Europe for the first ten years of my life was the greatest privilege I experienced throughout my sixteen years of living. However, my father was in the military at the time causing for a slight pressure to always be prevalent for the duration of my younger years. This mainly revolved around the fact that my sister was able to grow up in Germany and I wanted that same opportunity. Soon after these aspirations were formed, they became mere dreams that never would be fulfilled because my dad was given orders to either move to Mississippi or Oklahoma, which both deemed to be the middle-of-nowhere. Being the age that I …show more content…
Throughout all of years, my parents encouraged me to make my education an incredibly important factor in my life, allowing for me to want to be successful in my years throughout college and beyond, and thankfully so. Although there was a bit of stress caused by my higher expectations of myself, I was still able to see that it would bring me incredibly far. My sophomore year I decided to go on the path of early graduation, with the goal of finishing my junior and senior year in two semesters as well as finishing a year of college through dual enrollment, encompassing this past year. I am already halfway done with the year and I can see the significance the move here made.
Although the education I would have received in Germany would have been at a higher level, I believe that I have accomplished more than I ever would have at my old school due to the higher expectations I set in stone for myself here. I never would have expected to be given so many opportunities in my life at such a young age. This shows that sometimes change is one of the greatest blessings that can happen to a person; it has definitely been the greatest blessing I have

A Hero's Journey The last month of summer before my junior year started was occupied with pondering and wondering what I wanted to accomplish during the upcoming school year. When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…

The change from a life completely dependent upon my parents to a life where I am solely responsible for myself and all my actions was perhaps the most challenging aspect of this semester. I have come to realize how much my experiences inside and outside of my classes will shape me throughout my time at Texas A&M. Since my 4-year plan has been shortened to a 2-year plan due to my determination to graduate early, I have come to the realization that I need to mature at a much faster pace. During my first two months at Texas A&M, I began to have second thoughts about wanting to graduate early, because i was unsure if I would be able to keep up academically and socially. I realized the vast amount of maturity and responsibility I would need to approach my decisions with and many times I felt quite overwhelmed. My personal feelings in the beginning of the semester really engendered self-doubt, but were all part of the drastic change I was not accustomed to.…

My college search has brought me to many universities: visiting campuses, and talking to students, alumni, and faculty. While I could receive an excellent education from any of these schools, Notre Dame offers something "more. " I first noticed this something "more" through a contact I made with Kyle Cowdrick, ND class of 2015, who I have been emailing back and forth with over the last year about admissions, Notre Dame, and the college experience. I once asked him why he bothered to use his precious time to mentor me, someone he barely knew before, his answer: "It's the Irish way".…

My heritage has influenced my college and life experience tremendously. I was born in Mexico and my family decided to move to the United States in order to seek a better future and chase the American dream. I still remember the first day I arrived in Chicago; it was snowing, and I remember seeing the enormous Willis Tower. At first I got scared because back on my farm in Mexico, all I saw were old houses that were falling apart. Moving to the United States was definitely a challenge for me because I left all my friends and family.…

After about six years of being an ordinary, rather unremarkable person, I finally came to the conclusion that I will never be amazing at anything. I will never be the perfect all-star varsity player, or the perfect test-taker who can get a 100% on every test without studying, or the perfect anything, actually. Many say that nobody's perfect, but I have seen people that come very close. I used to pity myself, thinking, "I can never be them." Well, I still think that way.…

In my elementary school years, my peers bullied me, reason being why I used to be very shy and antisocial; I still am an often quiet and reserved person. Despite that fact, there was something paradoxical of my own personality: I enjoyed performing. Whether it was on-stage with an audience or at home alone, I always had a thing for singing my guts out and dancing like nobody's watching. I still do, but I’ve only realized this now.…

Success is defined as the attainment of popularity or profit. But how do you measure this “popularity” or “profit”? The reality is that you can’t measure success. It is merely a never-ending mirage that we Millennials are mistakenly chasing in order to fill the cracks and holes that make up our personality. We are choosing majors and jobs based on the income and social status rather than ones that we possess the passion and devotion for.…

Before moving to the United States, I was so impressed with the western lifestyle that I started watching American movies and music video clips and I started dreaming about being in the united states one day, so I could finish my education and go back to my country Chad to start a good life and be around my family and friends. However, I did not anticipate what I had to do to survive in the united states. After I obtained my high school diploma, I went to college for a few years in Cameroon, a neighboring country back in Africa , then I got a chance to move to the united states. Being a successful college student will give you the skill and intelligence needed to live a successful life. I think success in life is something we crave naturally as humans. Success relies on how bad you are willing to work for it. I believe that success in college is determined by who the student is and if they are attending college for the right reasons. Some say college has a bad reputation as a place to go to party, go out on your own, and finally have no rules.…

Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. I would always beat myself up about minute mistakes I had glorified during rehearsals, playing tests, and especially auditions. However, after I did not make an Illinois Allstate ensemble my junior year, my approach to these nerve-wracking situations completely changed. Instead of thinking failing negatively, those uncomfortable experiences actually made me improve as I had taken more auditions.…
