My College Admissions Essay: My Experience At Monroe College

Decent Essays
When I think about Monroe College, I think about chance, growth, and achievement. For quite some time, I did some research on the college and I received nothing but good experiences about the college. Knowing that Monroe believed in her and gave her the proper guidance; compelled me to apply. Right now I'm at Hostos community college, majoring in early childhood education. I am not satisfied with the program there and I'm honestly doing mediocre. I'm currently in the place to where I'm totally stressed out with my major and community college experience, that I go to therapy to help me become less anxious and give me sunlight in the hard places I see myself heading in. …show more content…
Ever since I was younger, I felt as if I wanted to be an educator. When I got to hostos, I noticed a change in my career path interest, but I didn't want to accept it yet. It's not that education class is not boring; it's because we don't have enough resources, inadequate professors, and not enough support. I know that with a well developed department, I can and will achieve my goal of becoming a educator at some point in life. While I have been at hostos I've been thinking that maybe the cliché school teacher isn't for me. This is because I found the interest in culinary arts in the recent year. I found that when my family cooks food, I'm always eager to learn and help. I love serving people and seeing the smile on there faces when they look, smell, and taste the food. Since then, I'm always in the kitchen trying out new recipes and getting exciting about possible dishes. I even started to thinking about owning a catering

It was a quiet summer night when I found myself walking through Marshall Park. The sun had just set and now the moon took its place as it hung lonely in the sky. After a pleasant stroll, I eventually sat down by the calm waters of Lake Mendota and began to think about the future. The next chapter of my life was only a year away, yet I shuddered at the thought of a world bigger than this. I looked out over the entirety of the lake and In that moment, my mind was set.…

James Paul Gee, in “What is Literacy?”, expands on the definition of discourse by breaking it down into its two vital parts, primary and secondary. According to Gee, discourse provides us with identity kits, which vary based on cultural and socio-economic factors, and our abilities to participate and share meaning with others in the world. The distinction between primary and secondary discourses lies in the physical and abstract acts of being, belonging, absorbing, engaging, and producing, as these capacities emerge, expand and transform over time. As we continue our journey through the world, and participate in a variety of secondary discourses, some of which we choose, and some of which are chosen for us, we refine our abilities to engage…

My academic experience at Union College is the culmination of my varied academic experience growing up. I began my education in a highly diverse elementary school (2001-2007), which laid a critical foundation of being globally conscious of differing cultural beliefs and practices. Next, I attended a middle/high school named Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) (2007-2012), that neither provided letter grades nor used exams as the principle ways to evaluate student’s abilities. LACS instilled a foundation of critical thinking abilities and pushed me to advocate and take initiative in my academic and professional endeavors. In 11th grade, I opted to transfer to the public, conventional school named Ithaca High School (2012-2013).…

Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. However, after I did not make an Illinois Allstate ensemble my junior year, my approach to these nerve-wracking situations completely changed.
