My College Admissions Essay: A Career As An English Teacher

Decent Essays
Growing up, I had multiple teachers who inspired me to be a better student and immerse myself further in the English language and the historical background of our country. I was awed to learn the understanding of symbolism and irony, and taken aback by some of the horrific actions taken by Americans in the past. I have always been sure I would become a teacher after graduating high school, and I dreamed of writing novels and editing narratives at a renown publishing house. I wrote stories in my free time and participated in UIL Ready Writing throughout my time in elementary and middle school to achieve these goals. I dream of the day when I walk across the stage at the University of Texas at Austin with my diploma in hand, as a Cum Laude graduate. …show more content…
By teaching children the proper way to write, act, and study I will help them acquire wisdom and become successful individuals. I yearn to help others make important life decisions regarding their future, and inspire them do what they love. My English teachers throughout high school encouraged me to learn from my mistakes and discover different styles of writing. I hope to impact the lives of my students the way my English teachers affected mine.
In addition to English, History has been my passion for many years. Learning about the feuds and trades that have occurred in our nation is fascinating, for which I will forever hunger. Minoring in American History will open up more teaching job opportunities for me, and allow me to incorporate factual evidence in my writing as I begin to publish my own work.
Being well known and being successful are synonymous in my eyes, and writing a book which impacts millions of people’s lives would be my ticket to success. Reading has always been my favorite hobby, a different, sacred utopia in each novel I pick up. I intend to write for the Daily Texan while in college, the newspaper at UT Austin. Doing so will give me insight about how much work it takes to create well-read pieces many people can enjoy, and ideas I can use when I begin writing

All writers are passionate about writing. Few writers, however, are fortunate enough to make a living off of their calling, or even to publish a book. In today 's modern world of consumerism, being an author on a full-time basis is no longer an option for more than an elite few. The majority of published authors are also productive members of society in another sense, taking on some other form of gainful employment. To find out more about this double life of an author, I managed to procure an interview with Struan Sinclair, who on top of being a professor at the University of Manitoba, has published three books, with a fourth currently in the publishing process.…

Beginning from grade school through middle and high school, we learn how to read and write as we grow. More importantly, we learn how to grab and hold onto many things; the illusions that we aim to achieve, called dreams. The drive to push and better yourself to grasp onto unexpected possibilities, we call opportunities. The belief and confidence that you hold within you, we call faith. “Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow”, as once said by Lawrence Clark Powell, is something that I have grown to understand and believe in through my day- to- day experience in everything that I do. In today’s world, where technology is evolving, reading and writing are essential towards acquiring any job or skills, I begin to look back at my life and appreciate the time and effort my parents put into making my education a success, and it couldn’t have been so without reading, writing and grasping every little concept. The Journey wasn’t always easy, there were days when the road was smooth and the sky was clear but, there were also days when the road was rough and the storm was raging. I can remember vividly when I…

“Artemis-Rose is it?” Miss Brandy calls out my name cheerfully. I analyse Miss Brandy thoughtfully. Long, curly brunette hair reaching beyond her shoulders, eyes the colour of caramel, long eyelashes protecting her eyelids, perfect teeth, plump peach coloured lips, a petite nose to go with her petite ears, a small beauty spot above her upper lip, freckles covering her nose.
