My Collapse In America

Improved Essays
My time here in America has not been a good experience and I miss my home in Mexico. I miss my life before my accident. Every day is completely frustrating. Everyone thinks that I can’t understand them; they think I don’t have thoughts and am practically brain dead. Well, everything they think is not true! It is like I am trapped in my own body. My brain knows what it wants to say, but I cannot form sentences or the right words to connect with what I want to say.
Everything is terrible in America. The only good thing that has come from America is Mayor. Mayor is my neighbor and he treats how I should be treated. Mayor protects me and makes me feel safe. He saved me from this terrible boy who was treating me like some sort of animal.

The one thing that still did not change is that I am still afraid to speak English because it is not good enough yet.…

In the documents from pages 47-69, from the “Eyewitness to America” book, the documents are about the Thirteen colonies gaining independence. While in each document the reasons for why each group fights for the independence of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain are different, they all lead to everyone in the Thirteen colonies beginning to fight the British for their freedom from acts that the English king is imposing on them from 3,000 miles away. These documents show that everyone in the Thirteen Colonies joined together to achieve the same goal, that goal being, gaining independence from Britain. The juxtaposition of the documents that show the Thirteen colonies fighting for certain rights in each document, demonstrates their desire…

Occasionally terrible things happen, but it's not the fault of our country, only the individual(s) responsible. There are some bad people in the world, and that is such an unfortunate reality that I think some people let cloud their minds and soil places/groups/countries as a whole. What really makes America special to me, and why I have such a strong admiration for my country is our ability to deal with terrible situations. The way we come together as a nation is truly inspiring. Whether it's peaceful protests or marches, food drives, volunteering, or any sort of help, the people of America are truly some of the most giving and kindhearted people I have ever seen or met.…

When you see Candy on the street, especially, everything about her is inviting: the stubby legs, the triangle ears, and her trademark smile. When people approach her, she melts into a puddle of adoration.…

    Essay On Hidden America

At the beginning of the semester, we discussed what constituted good writing, as well as what constituted bad writing. Over the course of the last three weeks, we have been assigned to read portions of Laska's Hidden America. After reading Underworld, Hecho en América, G-L-O-R-Y, and Traffic, I have concluded that Hidden America is stuck somewhere between being good and bad writing. Hidden America includes aspects of good writing as well as aspects of bad writing, constituting Laska's Hidden America as an average text in my opinion. The text offers good textual support, great detail, and a good connection to the audience, however, sometimes Laska's sources seem not as credible or biased and at times her passages can be difficult to follow.…

Every American seems to have a different view of the country they call home. One person may tell a foreigner the problems they see in their country and what needs to be done to improve, but more often than not, an American will tell you they live in the most wonderful country in the world, and while it has its issues, the positive aspects outweigh the negatives by far. In Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman and Allen Ginsberg’s poem “America,” you see two very different approaches of two life long American citizens explaining what it is like to live in a country like the United States, but unlike many citizens, they see the faults within their country and the areas that are needed for improvement. In Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman, Miller focuses a lot on the American Dream but he does not necessarily directly represent the concept of the American Dream or even critique it, but instead challenges the effects.…

America has always been a land of opportunity, and many people moved to this land to seek new opportunities and have a better life. But not everyone found this opportunity in America. Based on famous articles and speeches, America is the land of independence, meaning that success comes from self-reliance and the “ultimate triumph of the individual.” In “How I Found America” by Anzia Yezierska, Anzia and her family migrated to America to seek new opportunities.…
