My Co Teaching Experience

I am pleased that I was able to have the opportunity to co teach for the first time. This assignment allowed me to grasp what I will expect if I ever get to co teach when I am a teacher.
I always enjoyed working with people when it comes to assignments. It can be challenging being the only teacher in the classroom, because students may not be able to comprehend what the teacher is saying. Furthermore, having another teacher in the classroom the student may be able to understand the other teacher. Donnie decided that we should do games and exercises to allow the students with adhd to burn off some of their energy. Working together with Donnie was great because we came up with some fun games and excercises to implement throughout the school day. Co teaching is good if you have a myriad of students. It can be arduous making sure all your students are understanding the assignment, being attentive, and are behaving. I liked having Donnie as a co teacher because I have a softer voice and he was able to get the classes attention. If I had a plethora of students with disabilities I definitely would want another teacher in the class. I wish in a way that Donnie and I did are planning earlier. I feel that you need to run through your lesson plan several times before you present it. I was wary that we were not going to get to play our games because I did not cross my mind how tight of space we had in the

Chapter 3 had several interesting ideas that teachers should incorporate into their lesson plans for the first day of school. I absolutely love the Scavenger Hunt idea which encourages students to work together in teams while also getting accustomed to the classroom setting. They begin to figure out how the classroom is organized. Atwell introduced another game called Beach Ball Icebreaker. This game is played by having a huge beach ball with personal questions written all over it, tossed around the room and the student that catches the ball, answers the question that is closest to his or her thumb.…

Professor Joseph J. Caruso identified six phrases of cooperating teacher and student teacher development during the practicum. I think I am in the phase III: Competence vs. Inadequacy. According to Professor Caruso, “A triumph with an individual, a compliment from the cooperating teacher and other occasional occurrences begin to promote feelings of being an effective student teacher.” (Phase in Student Teaching-- Young Children, Vol.33, No.1, p 59)…

While reading “Using Collaboration, Co-Teaching, and Question Answer Relationships to Enhance Content Area Literacy” by Nicole Fenty, I had a chance to learn about some strategies that can be used while co-teaching with a Special Education teachers and a general education teacher. Collaboration is the key to success in a general education setting where there are students who have an IEP because the teachers need to be on the same page of what the students need to learn while Co-Teaching. It is important that each teacher shares the responsibility of teaching the students. This sharing of responsibility allows for teachers to become more knowledgeable in their subjects which, allows them to teach the areas they know the best. Being knowledgeable…

Co-teaching provides greater teacher attention for students on all academic levels through collaboration and communication. With more intense instruction, both general and special education students increase their opportunity for more student engagement and participation in the educational setting. It is designed to provide a specific service of delivery to meet the educational needs of a diverse student body. The co-teaching process allows both teaches to express their ideas and reflect upon which ones are the most creative by facilitating two minds, two perspectives, and two learning styles (Brewer, 2013). How long have you been a special education/general education teacher?…

This observation aims to describe the class environment of an integrated co-teaching classroom. It is geared towards identifying appropriate instructional strategies and modifications being used to create an engaging and inclusive class setting. In the end, I hope to have a better understanding of the instructional strategies used to instruct the teaching curriculum. I observed a least restrictive second-grade ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) co-ed class, which is located in an urban community. The ratio for the class was 25:2:2, which consists of one general education teacher, a special education teacher and two paraprofessionals who provided exceptional services to particular students who needed their support.…
