The road to becoming a doctor is unquestionably arduous and daunting, but it is one of the most intellectually engaging and fulfilling experiences of their lives. Being surrounded by like-minded teens naturally led to the formation of the closest friendships I have, for which I am extremely thankful for. I would not trade my time at OU Medical Center for the world because it allowed me to flourish into a mature teen with a more established idea of my…
I did not get a chance to tell you about my schedule but I really want to work on Mon, Thru, Fri, Sat, or Sun if possible. Thank you for your help. Have a good…
The study of medicine has evolved over thousands of years from something of an enigma governed by religious spheres to the highly specialized science of preventing, treating, and curing diseases of the human body. While my interest in becoming a physician did begin with a love of natural sciences, it has, like the study of medicine, evolved into something much larger than topics covered in my general biology courses. I want to work with people on managing their conditions, learn from doctors before me as well as patients, and be a positive influence despite often-negative diagnoses. Individuals all have different reasons for wanting to attend medical school, but I believe that we are either called to practice medicine or we are not. I am drawn…
I have worked in clinics as well as emergency rooms and have observed doctors and patients in both settings. I have seen how the help of a caring doctor can ease a patient’s fears, and how a patient-doctor relationship can become a strong bond that lasts for many years. The doctors that I have worked with have motivated me in my career goals and I look forward to the day when I can practice like…
Personal statement- medicine Compassion lies at the heart of medicine. In the midst of the A&E ward, my time in hospital revealed the healthcare team’s professionalism as they worked together efficiently during ward rounds. It left me inspired. Following this, medicine has appealed to me becoming a route to better the health of others. The opportunity to provide care and to use medical knowledge for patient benefit compels me to become a doctor.…
This week at clinical, it was my first time seeing a very interesting case that I never encounter before. It was very interesting listening to Breana patient especially the family history. Before the post conference, I helped Breana giving bath and changing the sheets. I was in shocked when I saw the baby features and it got me wonder what was her diagnosed and the history behind. After finding out her parents were first cousin, I got dumbfound.…
November 12, 2015, 8 am third day of clinical, I was assigned to shadow an RN named Senaite who was working at the 300 hall, where most of the client are not bed ridden but there are some who are not mobile. I was asked to check blood pressure of a client. I introduced myself, washed my hands, checked the client’s name, and explained the process. I asked the client which hand he prefers, the client replied “it does not matter for me,” then I checked the blood pressure, but it was too low or abnormally low for someone like him mentally active and alert. While I was checking his blood pressure, he was listening to the radio on his headphone, and flipping between TV stations, which confirmed to me that he was able to express any pain or abnormality.…
This class allowed me to focus in on my strengths and weaknesses in a clinical setting. Awareness of those strengths and weaknesses prepares me for graduate school on what I must work on to become a successful student and clinician. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have demonstrated dedication. I have worked both full-time and part-time during my studies and have learned how to have a balance between school, work, and volunteer opportunities.…
Thus far, I have learned many important aspects of becoming an effective therapist. One of the major parts of training involves evaluation and feedback from supervisors or peers. I think evaluations are an important part of training because it provides feedback to areas, which you are doing well in, and areas in which you will need improvement. I believe that without evaluations, we as therapist cannot grow into effective therapist. To date I cannot think of any job or career that does not use “end of the year evaluations”.…
Every living soul has some philosophy on which it builds its life and its values. “You treat a disease you win you lose, You treat a person, I guarantee you win no matter the outcome” verbalizes my philosophy of life. The imagination of treating the ailing persons has charmed me since my childhood. As a child I was always fascinated by my father, who used to be the only doctor in countryside of Punjab, a province of Pakistan. My father’s dedication to his patients and his hardworking nature intrigued me throughout my childhood and adolescence.…
I believe that providing freedom from sickness is by far the greatest service that one can offer to improve a human life. The years that I spent in medical school fostered profound intellectual, emotional, and personal growth in me. My experiences in different rotations have helped me realize that I wanted to be a Family medicine physician. Firstly the opportunity to care of patients from the prenatal age to the geriatrics age of life is a gratifying experience in total. Secondly Family medicine gives me the chance to serve the under-served rural and low-income urban population many of whom cannot afford specialized medical care services.…
I have a passion for the science of medicine and for providing care. While it was initially my interest in science and biology that prompted me to enter college as a pre-medical student, my experiences volunteering in the medical field have strengthened my conviction to become a doctor and have shown me how rewarding the field of medicine is. I have worked in clinics as well as emergency rooms and have observed doctors and patients in both settings. I have seen how through the help of a caring doctor, patient’s become at ease and how a patient doctor relationship can become a strong bond that lasts for many years. The doctors that I have worked with have inspired me in my career goals and I believe that medicine is the right career path for…
I value being educated and aware of the effects of my decisions, and have learned to take the time to read policies recommending different courses of action. I have also learned to speak directly to the patient, instead of just blindly following the lead of someone I feel is my…
The wonders of medicine may seem strange and disturbing if viewed at the surface level, but if really thought about, medicine is amazing and beautiful. I appreciate the idea of taking something that is not working, such as a patient’s body, and fixing it for the better. This is what healers, doctors, nurses, and anyone else in the medical field does. Taking on the responsibilities of being a doctor excites me for my hopeful future within the medical field, despite the burdens that will most definitely follow. Becoming a doctor would be a wise decision for me because I am truly passionate about the world of medicine.…
Nursing is a lifelong learning. To grow professionally in nursing I need to reflect and analyse on my clinical experiences. It will help me to improve my professional practice, gain more knowledge and skills, and increase my critical thinking abilities and confidence in dealing with difficult situations. To reflect on what I had learned during my past work experiences I will use Gibbs reflective cycle. It was my first week of work as an Operating Theatre (OT) nurse.…
