Clinical Group Reflection

Improved Essays
This semester my clinical group and I were in Medical Surgical and this course was broken up into two parts, Adult Health I and Adult Health II. The first part of this semester my clinical group was assigned to Anderson Hospital and the second part we were assigned to Alton Memorial. After finding out that there were only four groups that were switching clinical instructors and hospitals, our group did not want to switch. At that time, we thought it was unfair and a waist of time to be switching hospitals and relearning computer systems, plus having to go through orientation again. Now that the switch is over, as a group, even though we still feel that it was a waste of time, we all feel that we have advanced so much more being at Alton …show more content…
After our first SIMS, my clinical group kicked coccyx and our instructor told us how impressed she was and ever since that day, I have felt my stress level go down. I am appreciating the switch because of the experience I have received from what the facility has provided me along with my new instructor, and nurses and tech’s. I gained more independence with my new instructor and her being who she is made me drive myself more to perform my skills to my best abilities. I have passed medications, given subcutaneous shots, started an I.V., started an I.V. pump, gave I.V. pushes, bed baths, V.S., shadowed a nurse (absolute favorite), I was also able to observed the cardiac lab and the wound care center.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my second part of this semester. The whole two different experiences are what I needed in order to have an interest in being a floor nurse. My goal is to eventually be an O.R., I.C.U. or E.D. nurse, from obtaining the experience at Alton I would consider being a floor nurse for a while in order to gain knowledge, experience, skills and confidence before I move to other parts of the

On February 4th and 5th I had an ICU rotation to 3 South at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital which is a surgical ICU unit. The unit I am usually on is 2900, which is a Cardiac ICU at the same Hospital. Both units being ICU, I wasn’t sure how much a difference there would be between the two. However, there was a big difference between the two ICUs. Of course some things were the same, such as the layout of the unit (the pods, computers, and medication rooms).…

I do know that I want to be able to have my teacher feel safe with letting me perform certain treatments or procedures without her. So that as well as successfully implementing them will be a great goal next month. I also know that I haven't been doing as great as I could be in theory class so I feel as though that has affected my "clinical state of mind". I also felt weird about having patients back to back be discharged.…

A Respiratory Therapists role in long-term care facility and Homecare My time working at CCOH and RHCS was exciting and interesting. Although they are both respiratory therapist jobs, they each demonstrated something different. While CCOH showed how it is to work in a long-term facility and have consistent patient interaction. At RHCS driving around to the client’s place of business or residence to check on, or collect the equipment, made it personal able.…

From midterm to current my CI allowed me to handle more of her caseload, observe online documentation, and weekly progress reports on her patients. She encouraged questions, and thoroughly explained why certain treatments and activities were better than others. She allowed for open communication of patient interventions, which made me feel comfortable enough to take on more of her case load and contributed to my visual, and hands on style of learning. From my initial visit to current my CI has ensured my environment promotes growth at my clinical site.…
