My Clinical Experience In Nursing

Decent Essays
I was in PACU for clinicals this week. It was a fun day. We started off with two nurses (plus me helping them out). Then one of the nurses went home sick so it was just Karen and I left. We had several scopes and one surgery. Right after the other nurse went home sick, it got pretty busy. This was the first time during my clinical experience that I actually felt helpful, and sort of like a real nurse! I was taking vitals, listening to heart and lung sounds, charting, bringing patients in from the waiting room and giving them instructions. I kept expecting Karen to come in and check to make sure I was doing things correctly but for the most part she didn’t. I guess that means I was doing a good job.

The last four weeks of clinical has been great. I had the chance to followed nurses around and see their day-to-day routine. I had four patients in one day and I was able to do head to toe assessment, obtaining vitals signs, help with bathe, and passing medications. One of the patients I had taken care of was a 50-year-old lady with end stage kidney failure. Her condition was not discovered until she came into the hospital.…

As a future register nurse and as a woman I feel that a have a tremendous responsibility to give back to my community. I believe that one of the most forgotten populations in our community is the elderly, and as a society we have so much to learn from them and to thank them for what they did in the past. I strongly believe that if I could make some positive changes I would decide to do them to influence some senior citizens’ lives and to change their isolation for companion and thankfulness. I would advocate for the elderly with our authorities and I would request a budget to build a clinic to provide preventive health care services for them. I would designate a budget to build a nursing home for the elderly that do not have a place to…

The CNA who I was with for the day seemed as if she did not want to be bothered. Another challenge, was trying to assess my resident and not knowing their schedule for that day. I know we were only at the nursing come for 4 weeks, but this week I was starting to get comfortable and getting to know the routine of some of the residents.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…

It was a cold Saturday morning back in January, 2012. I remember tucking my scrubs into my socks in a failed effort to prevent them from getting soaked in the slush-coated parking lot. I was overwhelmed with excitement as I rushed through the hallway to make it to huddle. Not even a snowstorm the size of Texas, trapping us all at work for days, could dampen my mood that morning. It was only my second week on the job in the emergency room when not even a half hour into my shift I witnessed my first cardiac arrest.…

The Student Nurse Experience: Becoming a Nurse Introduction The process of transformation from a student nurse into a nurse could be challenging due to “blurring of the boundaries between professional nursing and a skilled healthcare work” (Holland, 1998, p. 229). In order to make it easier for a student nurse to identify her/his role this evolutionary process could be divided into three stages or “rites of passage”, including “rites of separation, transition and incorporation” (Holland, 1998, p. 229).…
