My Clinical Experience: A Clinical Analysis

Decent Essays
The thing that surprised me the most about the unit I was on yesterday was how busy it was. The nurses on the rehab unit were very busy with about 7-9 patients each. I was able to see how the nurses handled their stress and how they prioritized what to do first when being in an overwhelmed state. My nurse, Michelle was very kind. She allowed me to follow her to all of her patient rooms and pass meds with her. She explained to me how she gets organized when starting her shift so the night can run smoothly. It was a great first day

I’ve had the opportunity of completing my clinical rotation at Baptist Hospital with the medical team in which I've observed the different participants in the collaborative team and the specific role each person played. The team consists of physicians, surgeons, social worker, ARNP, physical therapist, and occupational therapist. While observing the team, the best outcome for the patient's treatment and prognosis is focused on before being discharged. For example, if the patient does not have insurance coverage, community resources are addressed to assist and provide the patient with the proper care post discharge. Learning how cares for patients that have been newly diagnosed with various neurological diseases as well as their long-term care…

Ever since being a part of this lab, I have had much of a learning experience. My research focused on genetically fine mapping a specific region of a gene in pearl millet plants that translates into bristle production. This required me to plant and maintain F2 seedlings and screen them for recombination. I would not have known how meticulous every task in an experimental procedure must be before I started working in this lab. Having this role has taught me persistence even with issues with results.…

What three things did I really learn in clinical rotations this weekend at Avante? That is a question with a multitude of answers. Having this being my first time in a hands-on, patient experience I gained many insights, tips, tricks, dos and don’ts in just forty-eight hours. I’m beyond glad that I could participate and look forward to adding to these three little snippets of what knowledge I gained. The first thing that really stands out in my mind is that patience truly is a virtue.…

November 12, 2015, 8 am third day of clinical, I was assigned to shadow an RN named Senaite who was working at the 300 hall, where most of the client are not bed ridden but there are some who are not mobile. I was asked to check blood pressure of a client. I introduced myself, washed my hands, checked the client’s name, and explained the process. I asked the client which hand he prefers, the client replied “it does not matter for me,” then I checked the blood pressure, but it was too low or abnormally low for someone like him mentally active and alert. While I was checking his blood pressure, he was listening to the radio on his headphone, and flipping between TV stations, which confirmed to me that he was able to express any pain or abnormality.…

Today at Simulation Lab I performed health history on a patient. Firstly, I commenced by preparing myself for the interview. Although I was nervous, as a nurse I had to be confident and prepare myself mentally and kept an open mind to meet the patient. In addition to preparing myself, I prepared the environment, making sure seating and arrangement was in place and the room was comfortable and private. Having done this, I utilized Florence Nightingale’s theory of environmental need.…

The Good and the Bad in a Nursing Home. May 9, 2012 is the day that I started working at Adams Lane Care Center. I expected to go into work and it was going to be just how my classes explained them; however, it was much different. On the day I started at Adams Lane, I learned about how badly the residents can be treated by the staff, I learned that family and friends are one of the most important concepts in life, and I learned that life is a lot shorter than what we think. Before I started at Adams Lane I thought that the aides, nurses, and everyone at a nursing home treated a resident nicely and with respect.…

We visited the PACU in the first week of clinical, so I was familiar with the environment. When I first walked into the PACU it was empty, but the nurse told me just give it a few minutes it is going to get busy. I was assigned to be with a nurse for the day and observe how she takes care of patients after surgery is completed.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. Having them to see their nurse and I joke and play around with them always put them in a good mood for the rest of the day. I would go into clinical on Monday through Thursday, and every day that I was there, the same nurse would be working. I feel like if a resident at the nursing home has the same nurse and nursing assistant on the same days then it will help them to understand what days it is if they have a medical issues and what it means to have love and support around them constantly. Having a good group dynamic with your coworkers and working with the same workers can help the job go by so much smoothly and more healthier for yourself and the patients or…
