My classmate presentation was about nutrition and physical activity. She based her presentation on the California State Health Standard for 9th grade standard 1: Essential concepts. My classmate presentation was very informative and concise. Her slides had enough information for the reader to learn from the presentation. I believe the PowerPoint presentation was effective in promoting health because it provided the definition of what nutrition is. On one of the slides, it talked about the US food plate. This is a diagram of all the food groups and how many portions a person must consume a day. The diagram colorful and contain pictures of all the foods that belong in each food group. I think this is beneficial for younger students and visual …show more content…
First, I would teach the vocabulary and the definitions. Next I will talk about what is nutrition. I will fill out a KWL chart and ask student what they know about nutrition, what they want to know and at the end as an informal assessment, they will fill out what they learned. For my following lesson, I will talk about the Food Plate diagram. I will discuss about the different food groups and portions. I will bring in real fruit and some food for the kids to touch, smell, and eat. I will give them one plate form them to color code it. Next, I will give them food from each food group so they can put it on their plate per their food group. Finally, we will do an all class picture sort. I will draw on butcher paper a large plate diagram. I will have tons of food cut outs and have all the students sort and paste on the graph. At the end of the lesson, student will know what food goes with what food group. Finally, for physical activity we will discuss what that is and what we can do to be physically active. I will give out notebooks for students to use as physical activity journals. I want them to write down what kind of physical activity they are doing that week. At the end of the week, we will take a field trip to the local YMCA so that the students can enjoy doing different physical activities such as: Zumba, swimming, using gym some gym equipment, run track, gymnastics etc. I will encourage physical activity by

I could talk with my students about how the civilizations that blossomed after the Agriculture Revolution could be distinguished based on their physical and human characteristics. We would first go over what both physical and human characteristics are and then I would have the students take turns listing the different characteristics of the civilizations that they are learning about. Some of the characteristics to be discussed are plants, animals, architecture, culture, language, religion, jobs, economic activities, and governments. The students could even work together to create a compare and contrast chart about the different…

Selecting the information used for the presentation I did in front of the PET 388 class was given to us. I was given the topic and had to come up with a PowerPoint to explain tobacco. I used the book because it outlined many important concepts when talking about smoking and smokeless tobacco. I also chose to go by the book because it shared very important information that should be learned as future educators. I also incorporated this into my presentation to the class because since we are all future educators, I though some of the concepts were interesting to know.…

This issue has multiple causes that are imperative to adjust in order to help educate the community and prevent any health problems that could save someone's life. The change for this dilemma needs to be acted on urgently because it is serious and timely enough to require a solution. According to Don Nutbeam, in his article “Health Literacy as a Public Health Goal: A Challenge for Contemporary Health Education and Communication Strategies into the 21st Century,” he suggests that health education is the first step to improving one's diet. As I reflect on my internship I realize it actually started during the summer, my principal asked that I be involved in the Summer Leadership meetings. The school representatives for these meetings were the principal who is a first-year principal with a high school background, the assistant principal who is a first-year administrator and another assistant principal who has spend most of his time in high school, the multi-tiered system of support coach, who is also new to the school and me. This combination was very interesting because I was the only one who had any experience at the school. This combination of administrators has made my internship a bit difficult, simply because they are learning their own roles and responsibilities, so it makes it difficult for them to assign me any of those roles and responsibilities. I have often felt as they feel I am…

According to the staff and faculty of the school, the kids are having adequate physical activity but have they witnessed that their diets are still poor. Some of them are bringing their own lunches and snacks from home, which usually are not the healthy options containing high amounts of sugar and fat. If they bring those choices from home, it is very probable that their diets at home are poor. Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
