My Christian Experience

Decent Essays
For Christians, death is a paradox. It is both the hope of eternal life and the fear of unknown. It is relief from pain and physical limitations and the agony of separation. (Shelly, & Miller, 2006).
I have been around so many times when people die in the hospital. My very first experience was when I was a brand new nurse working in an oncology department. I had a patient who has been suffering from a very excruciating pain due cancer and later died from the complications of his disease. I felt so sad, but for him, I think it was the best thing for him, at least he will never leave to experience those pains any more. A lot of unanswered questions were going through my mind. I was asking myself, where will his soul be, will it be going to

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. Bush stated this about the cowardly September 11th attacks. During that fateful day I was glued to my poorly constructed high school chair, gazing in disbelief what was unfolding on Mr. Cox’s History class television.…

I had similar experience, which was explained in No.1, on the edge of entering. I was church shopping when I came to the USA 20 years ago. I went to almost every church in the town. I didn’t feel welcomed, most churches wanted to convert me to Christianity in spite of telling them I am a Christian. For most of them since I am from India I am a Hindu and I need to be converted to Christianity.…

As an ignorant young adult, I wasn’t very outgoing; I was always the shy student, the one who always got bullied and I wouldn’t really talk to anyone. When I turned fourteen, my parents informed me I was to attend confirmation classes. I wasn’t exactly enthused at the new that I would attend it for two years. To add to these, wonderful news; my older brother was going with me too. Goody.…

Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a long-term healthcare facility has made me question how we handle death for the terminally ill in the United States. Caring for and interacting with people that are in the final stages of life alters one’s personal view of death. In a way it removes fear and allows one to see the comfort and relief that death may bring to someone that is suffering. Picture this; you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Out of desperation, and denial, you have spent precious time exhausting all of the available treatment options.…

Do we think of death as a part of our life or as the end of it? We all will encounter a death at some point of our life. When we think of a death, we think about fear, suffering, and emotional pain. I recently lost my uncle and my grandmother. I thought I was prepared for it.…

I believe that the church was birthed when Christ said it was finished and right after he died the Roman soldier pierced Jesus in the side and blood and water poured out from his side. When the blood and water poured out on the soldier it represents the blood washing us from all our sins. The purpose of the church is to teach us primarily about the lifestyle that we must live in Christ and it helps us grow together so that we can take the church outside the four walls. Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.…

An essential nature of the United Methodist Church is connectionalism. The connectional nature of the church is not only the linking of local churches, but also the sharing of leadership, doctrine and rules, an ethos, and more importantly: a common mission. The connectional nature of the UMC system allows its members to work with one another, sharing resources and experience, for the greater mission of the Church in the world. This connectional nature is emphasized through the structure of the church. The members of a local church are connected to one another through the charge of its pastor, which is connected to its district, annual conference, and jurisdiction.…

I chose to visit a Christian church because I was raised in an atheist household with no prior knowledge of any religious faiths. My lack of knowledge on religion was what actually inspired me to take this class and after a few lessons I realized that in order to understand other religions, I should have a firm understanding of Christianity. The Christian church where I did my site visit was actually a Non-Denominational church which I believe was perfect for my first experience in religion because it was already very accepting and open-minded. A Non-Denominational church is one that is able to make their own decisions rather than having to defer to a church organization and for the specific church I went to the only directive was that the…

But based on what I believe today, I find that death secretly excites me. It is no longer some unknown void that keeps me awake at night, half curious and half afraid – but something to look forward to at the end of a life well-lived. This does not mean that I want to end my own life, because I feel very blessed to be alive with the opportunity to learn and to help others. It also doesn’t mean that I won’t grieve when others die, or that I won’t be afraid as a patient facing imminent death.…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…

I believe everything in life happens for a reason. Believing this, I have questioned what can come from the bad things that happen in life and used this to shape my life. Even believing this, I questioned my faith in Christianity. Eventually, the experiences in my life—good and bad— showed me God again, and made my faith stronger. The first time I remember noticing strength in my faith was when I was in sixth grade.…

How My Faith Defines Who I Am Faith: having a strong belief in a religion, or an even stronger belief in a God. I personally believe in God the Father, and that he created each and every one of us in his own image. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sin and brought us new life through his death and resurrection. In my faith I stand as a Catholic, which means I believe in only one God. However, God is three persons, also known as the Holy Trinity, meaning there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events.
