Personal Statement: My Career Choices

Superior Essays
I’ve always been very indecisive when it comes to making any kind of decision. It could be the simplest choice of what to eat, and I will still contemplate it for the longest time. So when people ask me what I want to do for the rest of my life, it kind of throws me for a loop. Some days I want to be a stay at home mom who just takes care of the house and kids, and other days I want to be a successful surgeon who is constantly on the move and constantly helping others. For now, I think that I have found a happy medium to the two extremes of my future plans.
My mom owns a fresh seafood business in our hometown of Westwego, Louisiana (right near New Orleans). It is in the “shrimp lot” which is kind of like a farmer’s market, but full of seafood

I will basically be able to create my own schedule and have as much time off as I want. Honestly, I’ve never asked my mom specifically how much money she makes off of the business, but I know that it is more than enough to have us living more than comfortably. With this career, I will also be able to make my own decisions and not be under someone else’s command. It really appeals to me that I will eventually be my own boss and can basically do whatever I want. If it came down to it, I could even hire someone else to manage the business and I could stay at home with my own …show more content…
There were many different colleges and local businesses with tables and representatives there. Personally, I feel like I got a good bit of information out of the career and college fair because I got the chance to talk to many different college representatives. They gave me statistics and fun facts about their school. I was super excited to be able to talk face-to-face with college students so that I could get their personal opinion on how their school has affected their lives. I want to go to a school that has a very diverse group of students and classes and activities to do so that I can truly get the “college experience.” Hearing their first-hand accounts of all of the wonderful things their colleges have to offer made me rethink some decisions. I’m still not 100% sure on what exactly I want to do for a career; therefore, I’m not 100% on what I need to major in during college. My indecisiveness on a major makes it hard to choose a college because I don’t want to pick a college that doesn’t offer a major in what I ultimately choose. The plan has been to just go to a college in New Orleans so that I can stay close to home, but hearing people from different colleges talk made me question my choice. After going to career fair, I am very interested in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Nicholls State. These are two schools that I had been interested in before

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…
