I have been singing since I could speak and been playing the piano since I was five, and while I’m not the most talented pianist or vocalist in the world, I find myself encouraged by the smiles that I put on others’ faces when they hear me bang those keys or belt those vocals. I also found the beauty in hair and makeup. On paper, it sounds vain, but in reality, the artistry is a powerful force when shared with others that lights a spark in their eyes. It is truly a balancing act between academics, service, and passion. A successful honors student must exhibit perseverance through the hard work and late nights. They must also set standards of excellence and strive to meet them in all that they do. With determination and focus, these individuals can accomplish anything they set their minds to. And lastly, I humbly believe that an honors student is dedicated to knowledge, not marks. They are driven by learning new information that encourages innovation rather than securing a certain number on their report. While grades are the system that determines an honors student amongst a crowd, it is the character, work ethic, and attitude towards education that truly makes them
