My Challenges As A Writer

Everyone should know that feeling of an instant writer's block, that makes them feel like a complete idiot when they're writing an essay. If you've never felt that way before, then maybe you're a genius or you're not me. Most teachers prepare their students well enough to be able to knock down any challenges faced when they're asked to write an essay or term paper. I'll agree that writing can be difficult, especially when you're at a cram for time, but writing is an important part of a student's academic life. Ever since I was in grade school, I was asked to write. I've had to write everything from the alphabets to a term paper, and there's no escaping it. I find writing difficult, because at times what I'm thinking is more complex than what i'm able to translate onto paper, without breaking any english rules or going off topic. Writing is a form of self-expression but in english, that self-expression needs discipline and organization. I struggle with channeling my thoughts and …show more content…
In fact, one of those challenges include finding inspiration in the topics students are asked to write about. I find it harder to write five paragraphs about how Tad Lincoln caught measles rather than a topic that interests me, such as 100 ways to die in under 20 minutes. Another challenge a student may encounter while writing would be, making sure the topic is understood. On my AP English exam, I was asked to write a multi-paragraphed analysis essay on how competitive forces of nature react to one another, and I wasn't sure on what the makers of the test wanted from me. In cases like that, it becomes a challenge, because to be able to write about a topic, there has to be a firm understanding. In fact, it took longer to critique my work because I was stumbling on the subject on the matter. Challenges like those are the ones that can cause the biggest problems in anyone's writing

Observation Report: Writing Assignment The writing assignment that I observed was a literary analysis that describes the theme of “The Cask of Amontillado” through his display of the main character’s motives. The students were instructed to provide specific examples from the text, as well as clear reasoning that explains and connects their evidence to their response. The day that I was there to observe the class the mentor teacher was finishing the unit by having the students write a five paragraph essay using a worksheet packet that they had been working on for the past several days.…

Suzanne Laverick Harrington’s article “Our own stories- One teacher’s writing journey: Hey I’ve been there,” from The Reading Teacher (1998) explains that writer’s block, can be fixed if teachers were able to boost the confidence of their students. Harrington first backs her assertion with ways to prevent writer’s block with an antidote that works for her; second, with an explanation of her own struggles as an obsessed writer; and lastly, through her experience working with students who are “paralyzed with fear” in a classroom. Her purpose of writing this article is to inform rookie writers to not fear this so called disease as a way of giving up on the one thing they love. Even though Harrington writes this article to writers, her way of writing and her eye catching title attracts young college students who are struggling with their writings who crave help for their ideas to flow into their own work.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…

You also need to know how to pick and limit your writing topic. Rather than having many different ideas about one topic jumbled together, pick one idea and make a good, clear essay about it. You must have a topic where you are able to limit the size and handle it well. To be successful with academic writing, you must understand what you are doing when you write and it also depends on how you go about your writing task.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…
