What challenges or difficulties have you faced? How did you respond?
Similarly to many kids my age, I always played sports. When I was younger, I was successful and competitive. I always thought I’d continue with athletics through high school. However, I began to struggle because of my size. I was short and there was no way around it. While I continue playing travel soccer, I’m not as serious about sports as I thought I’d be. I’ve been taking the opportunity to spend more time at my other interests. For example, I’d been playing drums for a few years but never really had the time to do as much as I wanted. I’ve had the chance to do a few performances as part of a band and am very interested in doing more.

I hear about kids speeding and driving unsafely on a daily basis at school. Recently, a student at my school hit and killed a pedestrian while driving to school. This was shocking, and consequently, I feel that steps need to be taken by the school to curb these issues and improve the safety of teens and other residents of the community. Many teens are exposed to safe driving practices, but many still do not abide by speed limits and other regulations. Having parents be an active participant in the minors driver education could be a great preventative measure. This would encourage discussion between the teen and his/her parents about safe driving and will hopefully encourage a community wide discussion. As for corrective measures, a minor violation such as speeding needs to have serious consequences within school instead of simply outside of it. I could work for a large company or small company, even run my own business. Everyday new problems and challenges will arise and one of the critical skills I will gain by becoming an engineer is effective problem solving. I will be able to apply this skill among others, to a huge amount of possible positions. Another huge motivator is the opportunity to work with and develop new technology. Since, the demand for new technology is extremely high, it is constantly evolving and as someone who is very interested in the latest technology, the opportunity to work with and design new technology is one of my key motivators. This is also important to me because this new technology can have a very positive impact. A third motivation is the strong possibility of financial stability. Those with engineering degrees have some of the highest initial salaries and some of the best opportunities to move up in a company. The prospect of being financially stable is especially motivating because I wish to be able to travel and visit new cities and
