My goal to pursue a career in the field of medicine has been a dream of mine ever since I was a child. Growing up in a first generation family who migrated to the United States for a better future, I learned quickly that the struggles that I have experienced at times have taught me that with hard work, determination, and enthusiasm for my education and my community has allowed me to continue to work hard and pursue my dreams of attending college. As a first-generation Syrian-American student I am the product of two cultures melted into one. My mother who was born in Syria and my father who was born in Iraq immigrated to the United States with little money and no knowledge of English just to escape the poverty, war and live a better life. As a child learning the language wasn't easy and I had to speak on behalf of my parents on multiple accounts.

The night we decided to leave was a nightmare that I thought I would never wake up from. However, being the oldest of four children being raised by a single parent. My mother is a hardworking woman who struggles to keep food on the table who works side jobs to help support my family, but we barely scrape by. Sometimes even getting transportation to school is a struggle for me. Because my mom is endeavoring through these hard times, I try my best to keep my grades up, knowing that I have opportunities that my mother never had. Seeing the evils of abuse that was held in my household and being able to escape from the toxic environment made me want to save lives and pursue the career of becoming a physician. This impacted my future goals in life by realizing that to achieve my goals, I need to work hard so that I can help support my mom and siblings financially and show them that even though we went through hard times we can overcome them by working hard toward our
