Ever since I was a younger child, I have known my career choice. I always had high hopes to work in the medical field to help those in need. My thoughts on what job in the medical field exactly were all over the place. Finally, I decided that it would be good for me to be an orthopedic surgeon. I have always thought about the future as a child. At just age 8, I thought I had everything planned. I was going to be a lawyer. After realizing that I hate history, I figured that a job in politics would not be the best bet for me. Then, I thought about being a private detective. I liked the fact that there would be a new steeple to climb every single day. After doing my research on the job, I found out that the job outlook was not great for the future. The environment is extremely fast paced and stressful. We are found in the hospital or maybe even a private practice. We do not receive any breaks because you can’t stop in the middle of a surgery. The job requires that you work long, odd hours. Entry level pay is averaged out to $265,307 annually. Then, average pay for someone who has been in the field for approximately three to five years is $448,408 annually. Lastly, if you are highly skilled and have been working for five or more years, you will make $699,946 annually.
To become an orthopedic surgeon, you must undergo approximately thirteen years of schooling. You would begin with four years of undergraduate. Then, you will have four years of medical school. After completing those eight years of schooling, you will need to do five years of residency which includes four years of orthopedic surgeon training and one year of training in general surgery. To get your orthopedic surgeon certification, you would have to have completed residency training, practice in the field for two years, and pass a written and oral
