I have chosen this major because I have had firsthand experience with children in the foster care system. This class also had a special requirement for social work students, we had to serve twenty hours of volunteer service at an organization that involved social workers within their settings. Therefore, my volunteer hours were spent at the Cloud County Resource Center in Concordia, KS. When I attended Cloud County Community College for a semester I was involved in a work study with the resource center and fully enjoyed my time there. I found this an opportunity to go back and help Tina Stillwell and others out at the center. I spent my time cleaning the area for them for clients, handing out food in the food bank as well, and preparing the shelves in the food bank that had specific regulations. Another thing I did was go door to door to the low income apartments offering them white and wheat bread to people that really needed it. This is a great idea and is something that every community needs to incorporate into their community so people are not starving and only eating unhealthy foods because of such low incomes. The people I worked with at the Cloud County Resource Center were so kind and made me realize helping people who are in need is something that warms my heart. I went home each evening with great confidence that I achieved
