Why I Want To Pursue My Career As An Educator

The job of an educator is not easy. Teaching offers new challenges to face, and new questions to answer every day. I worked with high school social studies students. Both rewarding, and introspective, the experience was incredible. I examined the skills which make me most apt to work with students, while also finding some areas to grow in. Exploring the career of teaching in this course, I had an excellent opportunity to assess my desire to enter this profession. Teaching is a wonderful profession, and working with students is absolutely a passion of mine. However, after observing a high school classroom for over sixty hours over this semester, I began to realize that there are careers, which I am better suited for. Although there is nothing wrong with teaching, it is not what will most satisfy my desire to help students. Academic skills are arguably as important as anything else in this world. One being that I tend to be very jittery. Teaching would be tough for a person like me, who needs to be walking around, and has trouble being in the same place for too long. Furthermore, because of these jitters, I also have a difficult time reading large quantities of papers on a similar subject and still get value out of each one. Giving critical feedback is crucial as a teacher. If I have no way of quickly reading these essays, while still getting something important out of each of them, I am doing a disservice to the students. However, I could utilize this quality to help students in an experiential setting. Programing for an outdoor education organization would allow me to apply this would-be weakness.
