Every year I spend half of my summer hiking the Rocky Mountains of Montana with my mom and the other half climbing the Cascade Mountains of Washington State with my dad. I have grown up in two different states because of my parents divorce. However, I don 't have an innate sense of pride for one state but a pride for the two separate and unique mountain ranges that have shaped who I am today. When I am in the free and open space of a forest with the cool summer breeze flowing through my hair and the smell of fresh clean mountain air filling my lungs I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders and I know I am in a safe place where I can be who I truly am. But even with all the time I have spent exploring mountains I realize I know relatively little about them and how to protect them. I want to explore a new place and learn about mountains in the last great frontier of Alaska.
I sent the majority of my time after school on homework. I not only spend so much time on homework because I take far too many honors classes but also because I enjoy learning. When not studying I cook for my family, run, and volunteer. I have ran cross country through out high …show more content…
Not only is community service a way of life to me, but a life without helping those less fortunate is not the life I want to be living. I have always strived to be an actively committed member of my community through service activities. For example, I spend three hours a day teaching youth in my community. Teaching is an unparalleled, inspiring experience. My students are kindergarteners, and their curiosity and enthusiasm constantly inspired me. When teaching, I seek not only to teach them, but to encourage curiosity. Educating has taught me to communicate, to explain, and to not only understand the differences in learning styles, but to celebrate these differences. It can be difficult work, but it is unmeasurably
