The Importance Of Social Work

Social work and helping those who can not help their selfs has always been my career path because of my vast amounts of empathy, my ability to persevere and simply my heart has a lot of love in it to share. As a child at age six, I would attend work with my mother in retirement homes where I was first exposed to state facilities for the elderly with mental illness and other social injustices. When I was a girl I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I always wanted to help people and enjoyed the satisfaction of making a difference in someones life. The passion I have for helping others is always at the core of my intentions which has carried through my childhood into my teens and adulthood. Every job I have had I gained the most job satisfaction when I could help others. For my age group, cohort the recent economy crash caused career promotions to be at a holt and career changes difficult which left me working in food service. While in college I was a lunch lady for five years working with youth in Stockton and Lodi CA. I preferred to work in schools classified as title five, low income and high risk children because they needed the most patients, respect and love. I have made positive changes in small ways and a Masters in Social Work would allow me to make change on larger scale. My goal is to obtain the needed degree and career experiences to one day become a department head in a state based social work position. I want to be able to monitor, create and promote public programs for the general welfare of society including those who the government can and can not help.
