Essay On I Want To Be A Pediatrician

At age twelve, people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I would respond by saying that I wanted to be a pediatrician. The reason was because I loved the joy a baby’s smile brought when I babysat my nieces and nephews. I didn’t have any research or background information of what being a pediatrician would require. I knew my passion, was to work with children and make a decent living. When I was fourteen, entering high school the coursework was tougher. Exiting high school, at the age of eighteen, and forced to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life was even more complicated. I was undecided on my career choice because I did not want to be in school for a long time. When I grew up some things I was prepared for and some things I wasn’t. Leaving high school and transitioning to college was a rough experience. I went from having to ask permission to go to the restroom in high school compared to deciding what day and time I wanted to attend class for college. I went to Michigan State University, for my freshman year. I moved on campus and had so much freedom. I was totally on my own from the time I woke up, to the money I had to spend on necessities. I qualified for work-study and got a job on campus in order to pay for my phone bill. College work was not as easy as high school …show more content…
I only have a full year of college completed and some random credits from different community colleges. I didn’t have any professional job training, so I opted into working fast food jobs. The jobs that I worked were designed for high school or college students to earn pocket money, not for a person to live a comfortable life from. There was no way I was able to afford paying for a car, paying rent, utilities, health insurance and all the other bills working for minimum wage.
