Personal Statement
My challenges as an undergrad was the catalyst that lead me to decide that my future career endeavors involve helping college students succeed. All students need and deserve a solid educational foundation. Higher educational counselors are the dependable support system students have in community colleges and universities. Financial Aid advisors, Academic Advisors, and Career Development Counselors and more are important in universities and community colleges. Students should have the opportunity to speak to counselors, regardless of their academic standing and background. I recognize that this is an excellent program with excellent advisors, faculty and adjuncts. I have been at CSUB for years as a student and as a staff and I know I can guide and provide support to students in a community college or university campus environment. My compassion, my analytical and critical-thinking skills, and my passion to help students will help me succeed in the program and later as a professional counselor. My goal is to continue to work at CSUB, but as a professional counselor. After I graduate from the program, I want to help students as a Financial Aid advisor, career counselor, or Academic Advisor. I have reached a stage in my life where I know I will succeed in the program.
In conclusion, I am going to be an excellent addition to the program as I am passionate about providing fundamental support to students. Throughout my undergrad and work experiences I have had opportunities to help students in the areas of Financial Aid, Academic Advising and Career Development. I believe I am right for the Educational Counseling: Student Affairs program. My life experiences have given me the passion I need to be a professional counselor.
