Once I had completed nursing school I had the mindset that I finally realized what my career calling was therefore the rest of my career decisions would be easy. However, what I did not acknowledge was the countless career options within the nursing profession. It is hard to really know what area of nursing I wanted to be in, simply because the majority of clinical rotations in nursing school are medical-surgical. When I graduated from my Associate Degree of Nursing program I was more the less worried about finding a job to start my career. After working as nurse for a little over a year now I am now ready to make my first career move. There are many aspects of my future career that I would like to complete such as obtaining my Bachelor’s degree, accepting my …show more content…
A career change is very serious because a job holds importance in our lives. Some of the aspects that I consider important when looking at a job opportunity is my happiness within that job. I want to be able to go to work every day satisfied and happy with my career and accomplishments. Although money is important an important factor, happiness is foremost the purpose in my eyes. Which is a major reason why I am in the midst of a career change now. Before pursuing a career change I asked myself the following question. “What are your interests, skills and values, and how do these match the opportunities on offer” (Taylor, 2004, para. 3)? I am very satisfied with my first nursing job. I have had the opportunity to develop so many skills, continuously learn, and obtain more confidence in myself. However, I am ready to do something I have always had a huge interest in, which is perioperative nursing. Two of the perioperative positions I have applied for will provide the education and training I would need to be successful as a perioperative nurse, in return I would work for the employer for a few
