In a modernly globalized world saturated with a countless number of professions, a career choice is be a daunting task for those who do not have the driving force to work towards one. A profession can be a well-calculated, disciplined decision, or it may be the result of fiercely following one’s desires and interests. Regardless of the method used, to reach a desired profession there needs to be goals set by a person. An individual’s professional goals can often convey to others the elements of an individual’s character, the character they aspire to eventually become, or the life experiences they have encountered. The professional goals that I have set for myself are not only the result of my interests and academic preparation, but are also the result my life’s endeavors and struggles. After earning my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend medical school to pursue a career in psychiatry. Both highly rewarding and intellectually stimulating, psychiatry would give me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients who suffer from mental illnesses and disabilities. While I have always had a high level of interest in psychology, even mulling over the possibility of majoring in it early in my college career, my own experiences are what ultimately lead to my professional goals.
