The movie My Brother Nikhil a movie based on the life of Dominic D’Souza is a classic example of how one needs to be sensitized towards the problems with one is suffering through and lays emphasis on how it is being dealt to with the society.
The Storyline-
The movie begins by the Kapoor’s staying in the city of Goa. Set in the 1980’s it tells us about how Mr. Navin Kapoor, the main member to the Kapoor family always wanted to become a swimmer in his life but couldn’t achieve the same. She is shown as a doting sister, always been a helping hand to her brother. Moreover he is being also supported by his friend Nigel whom he loved. Actually the movie also highlights the concept of same sex relationship or homo-sexuality. Nigel whom he loved was in a risk of getting affected by the disease, but he didn’t leave Nikhil in this situation.
The movie goes on by Nikhil been missed by his parents and how even Nikhil missed his parents. There comes a scene in the movie where Nikhil asks his mother about how his father his even though being abandoned by his father. This shows how he has been caring for the family. Just because of the society influences, his father would have reacted this way as later on in the movie, even the father is seen showing concern for his son. Nigel, his partner was the one who was by his side always.
Eventually, with the efforts of Anamika and Nigel he is able to recover and ends up finding for a job but isn’t offered one and so he takes up a career as a music teacher. He is being accepted by his family at a much later stage. The family now starts to care about him. In this stage to, Nigel was with him.
