How To Write A Narrative Essay About Siblings

Many children think their siblings only exist to torment them and take their toys: this is only half of the story and not the way I wish my siblings to remember me when I leave for college. When welcomed into the family, my sister gave me a playmate. When welcomed nearly three years later, my brother gave me someone to protect. Despite the seeming insignificance, being the oldest sibling played a key part in my development; as a result, I do not take my role as their big sister lightly. While my role as big sister does not always include making my siblings happy, the desire to bring them joy never ceases.
Rival: person competing with another for the same goal. “Bye!” my brother and I shouted as the door slammed behind our parents. Back turned to the door almost immediately, he walked to our kitchen table where steam from our dinner rose to greet us. As he sank into a

“Oh!” Toward the stairwell, I ran, explaining before ascending, “I know what’s making the noise. Come on.” Although glued to his chair in fear, he dubiously followed me upstairs to his room, eyes never leaving my face. Boom! Snap, snap. With hands joined, I pulled him over to the window where red and greens bloomed, looking at him once more with a luminous smile on my face. After pushing the blinds to the top of the window, I pointed outside, “See?” Neon gleamed in his eyes as he gasped; moreover, as the brilliant sparks reached their crescendo, our heartbreak and fear disappeared and left only us and our joy to stay.
Built-in-babysitter, rival, protector, confidant, role model: labels that only scratch the surface of what my job as big sister entails. With our time together nearing its end, my most important job is to make a positive, lasting impression that will stick with my siblings long after I have left. An impression, I hope, reminds them even when I do not give them what they wish, I still aspire to bring them

The short story “Boys” by Rick Moody, showcases the relationship between twin brothers, and how events in a person's life can change the relationships they have with people. This story makes you reconsider the value you might have of family, as it did for me. There are some pretty notable parts of the story that can relate to many people's lives and their relationships with their siblings. For me it’s my sister and how our relationship has evolved over the years. This short story is truly relatable to most people with siblings in some sort of way, brings insight as to why some people grow apart, and can make you think about how a relationship with your sibling is the way it is.…

Being an older child in a family does not always have its benefits. Sometimes it puts you at a disadvantage when having younger brothers/sisters. Your parents might let them get away with more than they ever let you get away with, or they might even take up for them more than they would you. Having your parents and relatives take up for them in times that you know they should be either upset or disappointed in them might make you try to point it out to them. It would create an internal battle with your emotions for your brother/sister and your parents and relatives.…

Every single day there are many decisions that need to be made. Choices that can be as little as wake up time and some that are as big as choosing which college to attend. Most people grow up making decisions based upon their own happiness or because they want to follow in the steps of one of their role models. I didn’t have any role models or someone that I wanted to strive to become. Because I didn't want to base my entire life on someone else’s, I had to learn about what drives a person and what makes someone motivated to do common, everyday tasks.…

I pushed to be as involved as I possibly could. I joined numerous clubs and took many leadership roles. Basically, whatever my sisters didn’t do I decided to try. This not only helped me develop into a leader but it also let me try new things and become my own person based on things I was interested in rather than what people thought I would be interested in based on my sisters likes and dislikes. I appreciated the awards and recognitions that I received because it meant that I had been successful on my own and I didn’t need my sisters names to help me get to where I wanted to be.…

It was the end of another long school day when I first heard those words. My kindergartener self and my then first grade sister were squabbling in the backseat of our grandmother’s car about something so insignificant that I can’t even recall what it was. What my grandmother told us has stayed with us forever, “Be nice to each other. That’s the only sister you have.” These words were often repeated, also by our mother, although in a more exasperated manner when our voices were raised in a fight, and holds true today.…

When my first sibling was born, my role as a child changed. I took on the role as a leader and was very protective of my sister. This is one of the reasons why I think it is in my nature to be a “Mama Bear” and it could be the reason why I strive to be the best person that I could be because I know that I have someone looking up to me. This also could be the reason why I am never really that jealous of my siblings. I always wish to show the idea of love to them.…

Being the “baby” in the family gave me the power to be in control of many things, like making my family listen to me most of the time, and being the one who makes decision, such as where to go or where to have dinner. I really felt pampered by both my parents and siblings since young, because I always get what I want. When I was younger I remember that I will always win in a fight with my sister, because my mother will tell my sister to tolerate and compromise me since I was the youngest in the family. It will take me some time to realize my mistakes. Although I might look like spoiled child, I really know how much my siblings tolerated with me since young, and how my parents were always protecting me.…
