Nobody is meant to be born to be a slave. That with hard work and dedication, slavery can come to its end. The story is about a slave that goes by the name of Fredrick Douglass who fought for his freedom and the freedom of all blacks. “The most interesting feature of my history here was my learning to read and write, under somewhat marked disadvantages” (Douglass 339). Not many people had the advantage to learn how to read or write but some who did have it took advantage of it, of course, in a good way. They worked hard to try to put a stop to slavery and their work did pay off in the end. “Nerveless, the increase of knowledge was attended with bitter, as well as sweet results. The more I read, the more I was led to abhor and detest slavery and my enslavers” (Douglass 342). There is a saying that says that the brightest people know how cruel it is out in the world.
