I always think of my birth year as the year that changed my life. If it were not for my father’s decision to come to the United States the year I was born, I would not have gotten to where I am now and I would not have challenged myself to become who I am today. Raised in a small town, I always wanted to travel around the world. I wished I could go out to the bigger world like my father did. My dream finally came true in the spring of 2010 when my whole family immigrated to the United States and embarked on a new life in San Francisco. However, the transition was not as easy as I expected. After settling down, I realized there were two major challenges I needed to overcome: the language barrier and cultural assimilation.
