My Educational Career Research Paper

Throughout my educational career I have had several great teachers. To choose my best teacher is difficult for me since each teacher was for a different course and they had a unique personality and style of teaching. Overall, I would have to choose Mr. Poska as my best teacher (not necessarily my favorite teacher). I took AP Calculus I & II with him during my junior year of high school, then I took Calculus III with him in my senior fall semester. I also happened to have him as my junior and senior advisor during Connect. Connect is a 40 minute period allotted for students to work on their homework, get tutoring, or participate in a club. The students in each Connect classroom are composed of a random mixture of freshmen, sophomores, juniors …show more content…
Poska was a good teacher is because of his dedication to his students. He would try his best to be available for his students during Connect or after class. He would also assist students with math who had other math teachers. During AP Calculus, Mr. Poska would do his best to ensure that each student was overcoming their challenges in order for the student to excel in the course and succeed on the AP exam. He achieved this by making sure that the majority of students grasped the calculus concepts before continuing on with that day’s lecture. Through a growth mindset, he knew they no student should be academically limited because of a poor quiz or test grade. There were fun projects that he designed to assure that students could apply the calculus concepts in practical and real world …show more content…
Poska want student achievement in academics, but he also supported student’s extracurricular activities. He was invested in every student, including myself. Mr. Poska was relatable, and on some occasions after class or in Connect I would converse with him and a few other classmates. Because of my experience in a woodworking class during my final semester, Mr. Poska let me made a small project for him. In addition, he helped me with college applications by writing a few letters of recommendation. During the college application process Mr. Poska said that I have been a great student, not just because of my grades, but because I was a student of integrity and hard work. This praise follows Dweck’s opinion about how effort should be praised and not talent or intelligence.
I believe that Mr. Poska was an excellent teacher. No teacher is perfect, but he did his best to engage the students in calculus, a subject that tends to be considered uninteresting and challenging. Overall, I think that he follows the characteristics of the concepts that Freire, Hooks and Dweck have about pedagogy and mindset. Mr. Poska models Dewey’s qualifications for teachers and the multiple loves too. His passion for teaching is why he has been my best

In all my years of education, no teacher has inspired me in a subject as much as Mr. Karmali, my calculus teacher in my senior year of high school. Mehebub S. Karmali, was a old asian-indian, in his mid sixties, who was proud to be teaching high school students the concepts of calculus. He was not just being strict, giving hard tests, or giving terrible grades because he wanted to be mean, he was passionate about the subject, and was dedicated to teach the students.…

Ms. Kalinski is one of the two most influential teachers I have had throughout high school. As her student in my freshman and junior years, I was just a model student. But my selection of her as one of the most significant teachers I have had revolves around what I learned by spending time with her during her prep period. She embodies the type of person I would like to be: dedicated, involved, energetic, and, again and most importantly, dedicated to what she does. This is a person who can be found involved in every aspect of student life.…
