My Best Friend Meredith

A year ago, I went to visit my best friend Meredith for the very first time. Let me tell you more about our friendship before my visit. She was my childhood friend from kindergarten and due to her dad’s new job, she moved away in second grade to Massachusetts. I remember vividly the last day, when she came to my house to say goodbye. We gave each other gifts, so we would never forget each other. She gave me an Easter edition Polly pocket and I gave her a stuffed animal puppy. I would not see her again until I was eleven years old. We wrote to each other every day for two years until we got a bit older than we talked on the phone and our letters became fewer. Then one summer in 4th grade, her mother came back to our hometown to visit an old …show more content…
A quinceanera is a party that celebrates a girl leaving childhood behind on her fifteen birthday as she goes on to be a woman. Meredith was the first one I had in mind to invite, although I knew the chances of her attending was slim. Yet her parents knew how important it was to the both us for here to be present, so they flew her in a day before the party to be reunited with me for the weekend. Meredith and I clicked just like old times, and I got to enjoy my friend 's company on one of the most important days of my life. She helped me get ready, distract me when I got nervous, and helped me get all the bobbing pins out of my hair at the end of the night. In between the party and down time, we talked about everything since our last encounter. I was sad when Sunday arrived, because once again we would have to say …show more content…
Right after she picked me up from the airport she took me to a Hamilton Beach and I got to be in the ocean for the first time. We spent time seeing her favorite places and I got to meet her friends there. She took me to visit her parents, who are like family to me, and I got to spend time with them. We spent time talking and it seemed as if time and distance had not touched our friendship. The trip unfortunately ended on the note that I fell down the side of a mountain, Mount Manadnock, we were climbing down after reaching the top and I slipped and got my right ankle caught in between two rocks. I had to walk all the way down with a sprained ankle and that was the day before my flight back. She felt horrible, since I was in so much pain after the fall. Airport security was fun, I mean that in the most sarcastic way ever. I had to walk through the metal detector with a wooden cane because my crutches were made of metal. We’ve talked here and there since, but we have grown distant. But hopefully that changes, but the most amazing update is that she recently had a baby girl named, Annavery. I am happy for her and miss her

This is also a delicate occasion, one where care is taken to surround the young person with people who she can call on to counsel and support her continued development. She, in consultation with relatives and trusted friends, humbly asks particular people in her community to be her quinceañera sponsors. Some will be women, Madrinas, others will be men, Padrinos; all who accept this special role pledge to contribute needed resources to ensure this day is one of abundance and beauty. If I would’ve written this a few months ago, I might have touched upon my fifteenth birthday. A symbolic celebration that in Hispanic culture represents transcendence for a young girl into adulthood. Today, I am aware that, although beautiful and alluring my Quinceañera ceremony did not magically inject me with maturity, responsibility and all other characteristics of adulthood. I realized that simply mentioning I was mature did not make me so. At the age of fifteen my emotions were topsy-turvy, I threw tantrums and groaned duties given to me.…

Not only did Lainey become my best friend, but was benign, sociable, loyal, and never failed to brighten my day. Throughout our friendship, I had been pleased and there was never a dull time.…

Ariyonna Underwood As one ages, one starts to become their own person, figuring things out for oneself and becoming more independent. But as for me, I was a very shy, quiet, and stay-to-myself kind of person. I didn’t like being around a lot of people or just doing nothing. When a girl celebrates her Quinceañera, it signifies the girl becoming a “woman” and soon could leave the comfort of the home to make her own family. It is supposed to mean that she is to receive a family, her husband, and children. Yet for me that is impossible because of the news I had received two days before my “special” party. I remember the day so clear as it was yesterday. I remember that my cousins would be arriving soon to help my parents to prepare the food and then get the tables.…

Moving schools away from all of my friends should’ve been an appalling experience, surprisingly, it was a blessing in disguise. I went to Agnes Baptist Elementary from kindergarten to 5th grade and I had friends that I've known since I was 3. I loved it there and knew the school like the back of my hand. Everything was superior, like most good things, though there were times where they weren’t, I was harassed by a bully almost everyday, my grades were getting inadequate, and my mom didn’t want me to be a sad, disconsolate 7th grader at a new junior high. In the result, I moved and I went to Savage Middle School, a school that had 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.…
