What Are Academic Strengths Essay

Academics
1. The three words that best describe me as a student are observant, adventurous, and capable. I believe those words best describe me because I pay attention in class and understand when it is time to ask the teacher for help or work it out on my own. I enjoy learning new things and don’t mind the challenge. I also believe I am capable because I always arise to a problem and never enjoy sitting back and letting school work and sports hold me down.
2. My academic strengths are I am more than capable to find the logical way to understand the given material than waiting for the teacher to teach to me and I am always looking to improve to the next level in terms of my grades and sports.

I have always tried to be captain for my teams and always try to be a leader outside of sports. Throughout the beginning of my high school career, I was a captain for my sports and a coach to many young kids that enjoy the sport I love. When it came to other things besides sports, I strived to be the quiet one that looked after the ones that were falling behind, and always tried to propel and help them along the way, so in that retrospect I was not a leader that was leading the way, but last one in line helping pick up the pieces.
3. The Nicaragua Service Trip club surprised me that someone like myself who has been so privileged could get along and be a role model to these kids and adults that literally had nothing to their names and their future looked dim.
4. Well a part from Nicaragua, I also played a part in the Apopka trip which is a service trip funded by Gonzaga to go spend time and build relationships with people some of us take for granted in today’s society. I also learned that I don’t have the power to change the world, but I have the power to help those who are suffering and who need help finding the light that used to be there.
5. I either hope to take a week long program with the Naval Academy for the summer time or find another internship so that I can build my horizons so I can figure out what my place in this world is. I have previously had an internship with SafeNet Systems, Inc. along with a couple training programs for young children back in Costa Rica.

I have applied and my summer service trip was actually during the spring time where I got to spend a week with some of the hardest working people I have ever met and change my views on who is actually effected by these political waves throughout this country.
Future Plans
1. I would like to receive a master’s degree in either engineering or political science because I believe those are the two career’s that will give me the opportunity to actually help people in a productive way. But my main goal is to help people because of all the pain I have seen in this world, I want to help as much as possible to give the future generations a better chance than our previous generations have given them.
2. The only fear I have is not getting accepting to any of the schools I want to go to and it’s that fear of rejection and the possibility of my dream to actually helping people coming to an end because of colleges not finding me well suited enough for their

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

As a sophomore, I had to opportunity to get lots of playing time in varsity games and being a young player on the team, getting big playing time, I felt I had to take the leadership role in my sophomore class. Now that I am a senior on the team, I feel more of that weight on my shoulders. Being on the court most of the time, I feel it’s part of my duty, on and off the court, to be a leader for the girls. Keeping them serious in practice to just being someone they look up to when they need guidance, I feel those situations is what really taught me the leadership qualities. Being a member of this distinguished society is what I have strived towards since elementary school. Watching presentations and hearing stories from individuals in high school from a young age (who were at the time active National Honor Society members), inspired the archetype that I aspired to be –the archetype of an individual who shares the four characteristics that National Honor Society stands for: scholarship, service, leadership and character. Throughout my high school career, I worked towards the scholarship aspect. Despite where I am currently, my freshman year had not gone as well as I hoped it would.…

Another time that I have taken a leadership role is when our sideline cheer team had a booth at the Water Festival. I took the morning shift and when I got there I had all of the materials but only me and my coach had shown up and she still had to head back to the school to get the things we were selling. So while she went and got the stuff I stayed at the booth and lead it by myself until my teammates came and helped. I decided to be a leader in this situation because I knew that it was what I had to do to help my coach out so that she could get her stuff done. I believe that by leading the booth for a few hours I helped my coach accomplish what she had to do for the day and helped my team by sitting at the booth fundraising to help pay for some of our debts.…

Through leadership I have helped others in schoolwork, cheerleading, and I have pushed others in cross country and track. With cross country I may not be much of a leader in practice, but I am a strong leader when it comes to supporting everyone in their races. Also many people come to me for help for they trust me and rely on my knowledge.…
