We also took family vacations to Mexico during our winter breaks for school. Spending time in Mexico taught me that I had something that not many people over there could say they have. I knew that getting an education was not something many Mexicans had the privilege of doing so I knew that I really had to take my education seriously. I also knew that I wanted to make my parents proud because they had sacrificed so much to get me siblings and I to where we are. I knew that giving my siblings and I an education was one of my parent’s dreams especially because neither one of them finished middle school. Knowing this has always made me value my education a lot and it has made me respect teachers and what they do in their everyday job. From spending time with my aunts I Mexico who are teachers, I have learned that you don’t need to have an overbearing amount of supplies to teach students. I believe that there is a teachable moment in everything that happens throughout the course of the day. I also believe that any child can learn a lot by not being in a classroom setting. I feel that one’s life experiences play a huge role in how they act and think within the classroom environment. I firmly believe that a teacher should inspire and encourage a student to be anything they want to be in the future. I know that there is some students do not live in an ideal home environment, so when they go to school they need someone who they can relay on and get support from. My teachers always took the time to get to know me and my likes and dislikes. I believe that to know how to teach a student, the teacher should know more about the student then just the basics. Knowing in what way the students learns best will really help the student achieve success. I also think it is important for the teacher to understand the child and his or her personal situation. For example, the teacher should know whom the child lives with and what the family’s financial situation is. I believe that this is important because as a teacher you never want a student to feel excluded from any in class
