The first major event of my parents’ lives that changed me life was when my father got accepted into a University. This was something big because my father came from a poor family, and he was the first generation to complete college on his side of the family. Everyone in the family helped by giving what little they could to make sure that my father made it and made something of himself. When I was younger and my father told me this story, he told me something that stuck with me and has been a factor in shaping me, I wanted to be better than my father, and he wanted me to be better than him. This impacted me because it taught me to not judge people on things like race, sexual orientation, or religion. The people who I have grown to trust and care about are those who others deem different and weird, and those changed my life because I did not judge them when we first met.
