My Aunt's Experience With Cancer

One rainy July afternoon we received a call about my aunt. My aunt was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17, now 26 her cancer has spread over her body. My family knew that this may have been her last few days, and knew we had to react. Due to this, I believe people can overcome tragic situations. She called us from the Indiana hospital in an upset manner. She murmured the words, “It is not looking well and not much longer to live.” My family was in shock; we packed our clothes and headed to Indianapolis hospital. We arrived at Indianapolis Hospital at the beginning of a new shift, and it was chaotic. We struggled to find my Aunt Dana in the twenty three-story building. We finally found her room, and went to her bedside, she did not look healthy but we began praying immediately. We knew that this would be her final days on this earth, the cancer was spreading and there was no stopping it. As I saw the rain falling outside I began to weep, I loved my aunt and did not want anything to happen to her. As the night progressed more and more people came to support her, the waiting room outside her room filled up completely. The waiting room was in silence, it was possible to hear a pin drop. Voices all across the room in murmured prayer, all the families and friends circled up and prayed. I fell asleep in the waiting room floor that night due to the stress and exhaustion. When facing adversity trusts in God, and pray. Anything is possible with God on the same side. Through this experience I have grown closer to God and the way I handle a death or illness. I believe that through death and illness there is a way to overcome it and see the
