My Assignment On The Hero's Journey

Decent Essays
I turned in the assignment on the hero's journey last night and completely forgot about the proper format for MLA. After looking at my notes from last year, I remembered the appropriate header that the paper required. I have tried to edit my paper to insert the right format, but I am not allowed to. I wasn't sure if an exception could be made since the due is not until tomorrow. I am so sorry for the inconvenience and I appreciate taking the time out of your day to read this.

“The Hero’s Journey Defined” is an article by Joseph Campbell describing the recurring process that occur through the course of an odyssey. The article articulates the conditions in which a heroic journey can begin and the possible people who might be entangled. The article uncovers the process from departure of the hero to the initiation of the hero through a series of tests and finally the return of the hero back to his original state. The commencement of the journey, or the departure, is the point where the hero steps out of their comfort zone and experiences death from their home life. Anthony Ubelhor’s article, “The Hero’s Journey Defined”, told about the myths and fairy tales in archetypal stories, which included an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces, published in 1949. The excerpt discussed the many phases a character must pass through in order to be considered the hero of the story. The three phases, Departure, Initiation, and Return are the headlines of the multiple stages a hero experiences contained in each phase. The first big idea of the article is Departure, the first phase of the Journey. Within this phase are the multiple stages of departing, some of which explains how the hero is called to begin his journey, how he will receive items that will aid him on his adventure, and how…

The last step of the hero's journey is the Return. The Return is when the hero is able to come back to the old world with his accomplishments. Sometimes the hero may feel content in the new world and refuse to return to the old world. In order for the hero to fulfill their destiny and become the leader they need to return to their old world. An example of a refusal is when Jack fights against the cops and refuses to turn himself in and go to jail.…

In many works, books, movies, and other aspects of entertainment, the hero’s journey is not uncommon to the typical reader or moviegoer. The hero’s journey is one of the oldest tools to compose a piece of literature or work, however, it hardly ever fails to strike the audience as entertaining whether it be about a fictional or nonfictional occurrence. The journey to contain evil, both mythologically and realistically, requires sacrifice and courage in the face of fear, demonstrated in The House of Hades and Saving Private Ryan. One example of courage in the face of fear occurs in Rick Riordan’s…

Hero’s Journey Narrative He handed me a blue necklace before he perished into the burning fires of the precious mansion he held so dear to him. He just laid there, watching his valuables burn to ashes and follow the path of the outside wind. His last words were, “Look in the cupboard, everything is there for you.” He said it with such seriousness, he was accepting his death and that is what pained me the most. The man in the alley went unnoticed. Or perhaps he was unremarked upon, ignored. A long, tattered overcoat splattered with various fluids hid the majority of his body, though matted black hair that would have been smooth and glossy had he washed remained visible. His head was bowed, burrowed into his folded arms where he sat curled against the alley wall. It was almost as if he slept.…
