The artifacts in my life make up who I am. One artifact from my life is my afghan. My afghan was made by my grandmother. It was given to me when I was eight years old and I still use it to this day. It is important to me because I know she spent a long time and effort making it so it would be perfect for me. It is also important to me because it’s the last thing I have to remember her by. My afghan is a very important artifact in my life.

Another artifact from my life is my diamond ring. My diamond ring was given to me by my mother. She gave it to me when I was ten years old. She got it from a jewelry store in Brazil. “Identification because impossible, unless the dead happened to wear some clearly distinctive piece of jewelry or clothing.” That ring was the thing that identified Cora, his wife, after she died and was found in a pile of rubble. He resized and wore it as a reminder of the storm and not only all the loss he had encountered but, all the families that had been torn apart, all the people that died, and all the property that was damaged, to a point where “the world was not in acres, but in cubic yards”. Even after everything was cleaned and damage of the storm could no longer be depicted, the ring served as a reminder of everything that was there and everything that had been lost, not only Cora's…

In some families there are certain objects that are passed on from generation to generation. A three golden chained emerald necklace was the precious object passed on. In the Garth family, Celia’s parents had died and passed on an emerald necklace to Celia, which her father had given her mother when they got married. This necklace had been passed from generation to generation ever since the first Garths came over from England. The necklace has three parts that are important to the book Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow: the emerald shows the poison in Celia’s life, the color green displays toughness and masculinity, and the gold chains symbolize Celia being generous by giving the necklace over to Roy, her cousin, and the success of Roy getting…

The M&M artifact shows the results of a project we did, which include four people opening up a bag of M&M's we picked separated the colors and found out the averages of each color. I created this spreadsheet using a google document, some of the tools I used consisted of gathering data and documenting the data we came up with. After that I color coded the M&M colors by filling in the background and also created a pie chart to show the data we gathered. I could use a project like this in several different occasions in my class any project I do with my students I could have them incorporate a pie chart and collecting data is something we will be doing throughout our school year. I meet the above standard by collaborating with students, peers and…

The ontological status of non spatiotemporal entities is often a controversial issue among philosophers. Fictional characters are discussed in particular because of their prominence in our ? culture. Amie L. Thomasson and Alexius Meinong address this ontological controversy surrounding fictional characters found in literature through different positions. Amie L. Thomasson’s paper, “If We Postulated Fictional Objects, What Would They Be?” introduces the artifactual theory in which fictional characters are ‘abstract artifacts’ created by and depend on their authors for their existence. Under the Meinongian Theory of Objects, anything that the human mind can think of or refer to is an object with a certain ontological statues of either existence,…

The crisp, clear sparkle of a diamond ring has long represented the sanctity of marriage. The traditional diamond engagement ring holds along with the white wedding gown, the exchanged possession of the bride, the requisite of virginity as well as a life of inferiority and obligation for the bride. As women continue to break free from the many chains that have bound them for so very long, our societal ties to this vacant gemstone should be torn as well. With so many lovely gemstones that shine with their own unique colors, we have too many options with which to express the distinctiveness of each relationship to default to something as devoid of character as the classic diamond engagement ring. From the brilliantly and fantastically colored…
