My Argument Evaluation

Paper 1 draft was reviewed by the Professor and a friend of mine; however, the focus of the reviews were drastically different and allowed me two improve my paper in two dimensions. On one hand, the Professor focused on the structure of my argument and the evidences to support my argument. Since the Professor knows the background information well, she was able to suggest improvements in conveying the author’s ideas and exploit weaknesses in my argument. For example, I would never have noticed the weakness of my second point of my argument, trialibility, without the Professor’s explanation of how it does not support my argument well. On the other hand, my friend helped improved sentence structures that allowed me to learn how to express my ideas

The National Institute of Health (NIH) doubled their funding in just 5 few years, starting in the late 1990’s, until this exponential increase in funds came to an abrupt halt. The document “A Broken Pipeline,” put together by a number of concerned scientists, addresses the issue of the hostile environment that developed under the severe financial pressure academic research institutions are facing as a result of losing funds. Nonetheless, halting thousands of innovative research projects with promise is unacceptable, especially when the research being performed is detrimental to keeping up with progress in our rapidly advancing age. The urgency of the scientists in “A Broken Pipeline” is absolutely justified, and I strongly agree that funds…

Recently, there has been an argument in the State of Texas about the power of the State and the local governments. This argument had raised up after Gregg Abbott warned about the “Californization” of Texas, and in follow passing laws that limited the power of local governments on issues like fracking in their cities. These arguments are similar to those that are for the powers for the State versus Federal government. Hence, there are lots of arguments for and against the local control, and on the other hand, it is hypocritical for the state government to impose its will on the policies.…

Final Argumentative Essay Kyle Brown 1/22/17 In my opinion my argument would have to be that survival can be a good thing so you don't have to put your loved ones through a trauma, but this can cause an impact on you if someone else's life is taken to save yours, for example, one of the stories tell how an army soldier orders for the battery to get changed on an automatic machine gun and it was not an army battery instead it came from the navy and it didn't shut down and it gunned down a man that was stationed right beside it so he goes through the trauma of feeling guilt about what occurred that day even though he didn't kill him. In the story the seventh man, the man goes back into his past talking about when he was a boy and how he had…

In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State,” “Ban the Ban!,” and “Soda’s a Problem but…”, all three authors present their arguments with facts, opinions, and counterclaims. However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

The topic for this weeks discussion is to define an argument and decide if an argument is successful or unsuccessful. There are many types of arguments but in general, an argument is a debate between people with opposing opinions, facts, or statements that can be resolved with clear evidence. An argument is successful if the person making a claim offers trustworthy evidence that is true and valid about the topic that will convince the other party to accept his/her viewpoint or even take the evidence into consideration. An example of a successful argument would be, person one viewing a woman on the basketball team as good and person two claiming that the woman is not good.
