In Development The decision to accept my appointment to USNA was a sizable decision, but a relatively easy one to make, as I stand sure it was for the other thousand or so fourth class midshipman. It had been a goal of mine since I was in the tenth grade to come to the academy, and when presented the opportunity, I knew I must take it. I had a pretty general idea of what I was getting myself into, however, in my little time at the academy, I feel that I have learned a great deal about myself, and I know, that with time, I will learn even more. The group discussions in class and the materials we have been required to read have bolstered my resolve to commit myself to USNA. Throughout the scant time we have spent in class, we have covered …show more content…
The skills that we have today, that can be readily utilized at any moment, are our strengths. We have developed our strengths from hours of practicing our skills. As a future leader, it is our duty to know when our repository of strengths will not be enough to accomplish the task at hand. We are going to have to rely on our shipmates, who collectively, should have the strengths and skills needed to accomplish the mission. As a leader, it is our job to know when that time will be, and not be too arrogant to ask for help. Before NL110 I probably could have named off a few strengths I thought I possessed; but, after taking multiple different strengths and character trait tests, I can now recognize what I am innately good at, and what could use some work. Specifically, after taking the StrengthsFinder test, I now know that my signature themes are: Achiever, Belief, Context, Developer, and Empathy. Using this assessment of my most dominant themes of talent, I can focus on my signature themes, separately and together, to identify my talents, build them into strengths, and in the future, perform with success (“Your Signature Themes”). How I respond to different situations, whether in the classroom, company area, or in peer relationships, will be determined by my strengths. At USNA we are given the opportunity not only to hone the …show more content…
When we are asked why we wanted to come to USNA, most plebes give the typical cliché answer of “I want to serve my country” or something along those lines; we all want to serve or we would not be here. The reason I came is, sure, for the cliché reason, but also because I did not want to burden my family financially with the expenses of civilian college, and I wanted to become the best person that I can. Over Plebe Summer, the plebes talked amongst ourselves often about the reasons we all came to USNA. The upper class would always tell us that our reason for staying at the Academy would be most likely be different from the reasons we came; I see that now. I see that the reasons I want to stay are for the people I have met and grown close to. Through our experiences over the Plebe Summer and our resocialization into the military, I feel closer to some of these people than countless of my closest friends from back home. Also, I believe the Academy is the best place to observe great leaders, and to develop skills. Therefore, allowing me to grow myself into the overall bester person I can be, and the kind of leader that I want to

The five greatest strengths shown to me by the Strengthsfinder Survey were Consistency, Belief, Responsibility, Developer, and Relator. I chose a life of Civil Service, in the Military and now as a Police Officer. Having Consistency and Responsibility I believe fit right into this life choice and in my opinion if you don't have Belief in what you're doing you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. I utilize Consistency on a daily basis as a Police Officer. I wholeheartedly believe each individual has the right to be treated fairly and on equal ground to anyone else regardless of social, economic or criminal justice standings.…

With Veterans Memorial High School opening up towards the beginning of my sophomore year; it put multiple kids from different background together into one school. In the origination of the school, it was quite difficult to put aside the previous student body loyalties, biases, and come together to create something worth lasting which has never happened before. I saw this task at hand and I decided I wanted to take part in uniting this school. I would play a part in creating a future for the next generations that have come and yet to come. Bringing people together and creating a sense of unity in such a divided world plays off when I look back and see how hard I worked in the making of that community.…

While some see graduating from Harvard as a very prestigious mile stone in their life, which it is for some, I saw mine as becoming a member of a 241 year old fraternity of great leaders, warriors, and hero’s. I chose to join the United States Marine Corps. I saw no better place to learn true leadership and life skills than the military, specifically the Marine Corps. There are few professions in life where one is forced to make critical decisions under intense, dangerous, and life changing circumstances. This fraternity, as I call it, has produced some of the finest leaders in business and politics.…

Together, the USNA, USAFA, and USMA have produced a total of 106 astronauts to date. I have always loved space and have always wanted to get involved in planetary science. Much like the academies, it matters less how I contribute to planetary exploration than that I contribute at all. My interests include working in Propulsion Systems Engineering at NASA JPL, working in Astrodynamics at NASA Johnson, to participating in the astronaut program myself. Regardless which one I pursue, the military and educational skills I learn at an Academy will no doubt be in need wherever my career takes…

The events portrayed in the video filled me with a desire to stand with the cadet candidates, persevering through any difficulties thrown their way to achieve a bigger goal, making their families proud and making something for themselves. In addition, I want to go out a make a difference to those in my community and my country. The extremely appealing aspect towards attending the academy, to me, is that the academy is a place in which hard work, integrity, leadership and values determine status as opposed to most other schools in which gender, race and or economic status determines the status of a student; due to this, I strongly believe that the academy is a place in which I will excel and reach my…
