My Antonia Culture

I went to the Croatian Hall in South Saint Paul to celebrate Croatian Day, it was filled with many fun events. When Immigrants were first coming to America from Croatia this was a common place to meet to talk with other families, and to keep learning the Croatian customs. I tried different food, saw the outfits they used to wear, their flag, a stage where they would dance and sing weekly, and I also saw old pictures of the people that used to live in Croatia. My great grandma Emily Janet Grednesyak parents were born in Croatia and they emigrated to America. My grandmas first language was Croatian, until she went to school and learned English. One of her favorite memory was gathering on Friday nights, and dancing with her family and friends. My favorite part about Croatian day was the food. I tried many different foods, including sarma, which is most popularly made with grape leaves rolled and stuffed with rice, meat and sometimes other special ingredients. I …show more content…
They were playing the bass, clarinet, flute, horn, and many more. They had different, historical thing set up like outfits, and pictures. The outfits were so pretty the girls usually wore a shirt and a blouse, normally they were decorated with florals, designs and different colors. The men usually wore skirts or pants, with a long blouse and a brown vest, the brown vest had a badge, the badges had all different meanings. There was a few photos of what people looked like years ago most of the women were wearing hats, and there hair was short and down. All the men were dressed up in a nice outfit and wore a sash. This was a really fun experience and I loved learning about croatia and all the special customs they have. The food was great, and the outfits they wear are really pretty. I’m excited to learn more about croatia in the future and one day I want to go there and explore the amazing
