The United States of America is considered as the “land of opportunity”. The place provides its citizens with a chance to succeed in life through countless opportunities. Whether it be to further one's education or build a career with a job, everyone has a shot to fulfill their American Dream; the dream to reach prosperity through hard work, and determination. Education is what paves the pathway to achieve one’s American Dream. The knowledge and the resources provided in the different levels of schooling is what gives one the ability to succeed. Resources such as the career services, professors, guidance counselors, and the library helps students in elementary, middle, and high school develop the necessary life lessons and skills needed in order to succeed. With myself being a college student, sitting in on a lecture for an average of hour and a half listening to the instructor can get boring at times. Several time during lectures I have catnapped into my own thoughts and losing focus and attention on topics discussed in class. This strike of boredom has resulted in me using a digital device whether it be a computer or a phone in order to keep myself entertained. Just like me, others have found themselves victims of this. According to an article regarding distractions in classrooms by electronic devices called “Digital Distractions in the Classroom: Student Classroom Use of Digital Devices for Non-Class Related Purposes” by Bernard McCoy, a professor at University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Based on a survey mentioned in the article, an average respondent uses a digital device 10.93 times for texting, social networking, and emailing in order to fight boredom, entertain themselves, and to stay connected to the outside
