My American Dream Analysis

1. With the results of the 2016 Presidential election fresh in our minds, many Americans are contemplating about how their personal dreams will survive the next 4 years. My American Dream is for equality, humanity, education and freedom to survive and thrive in America. We as a country have come far in evaluation of these issues, but there is still work to be done before these dreams can become a reality. 2. One facet of my American Dream is that there is equality of gender. The United States have come along way in terms of women's rights, but there's still much to be done. Women are still scrutinized by the public, specifically in the workplace. In order to achieve my American Dream, there needs to be equality of men and women in the workplace. An important part of my American Dream is the value of freedom, specifically the freedom of speech. Having the freedom to say what I want is one of the things that I love most about America. It allows for so many different perspectives and opinions to be heard and gives Americans the right to change and rebel against what is unjust. According to Melina Delkic at the Huffington Post, “when powerful people threaten to silence press and discourse and freedom, then it is our duty to push for conversation, for action, and for justice” (Delkic, 2016, para. 8). I agree with Delkic, that it is our duty to say what we need to say because it holds powerful people accountable. For example, in many countries, it is illegal to criticize the government. I’m proud to live in a country where I can go outside and tell the world what’s on my mind. The freedom of speech can lead to scandal and controversy, but that is much more interesting than only being able to hear one opinion.
