I felt that most of the members truly wanted help and was getting help by attending these types of meetings. But there were some members who was on their cell phones while the guest speaker was sharing his story, and I felt that it was so rude. Also, there was another member who I guess was homeless and he smelled like he drank alcohol. It wasn’t my place to say anything, but I think he shouldn 't of attended that …show more content…
I gained valuable insight on why people in general get addicted to substance. I learned that alcoholism is a disease and has a strong genetic predisposition. Also learned that family situation and background has tremendous impact on being addict. And becoming an addict is an easy door to enter but hard to get out of. It is easier to destroy than to create. I am glad that I live in a country where there are programs like this for people who need this kind of help. and that there is a strong community support that available to these people. My personal belief is that it all starts out with parenting. Even with the genetic predisposition, I think that if you come from a good family and parental guidance there will be less incidence of children growing up to becoming addicts. I know that there isn’t one solid answer to this pandemic disease, but I believe this should be on the top of the answer
