The Importance Of My Experience On The Internet

Improved Essays
When I first embarked on my adventure with the internet I was in fourth grade. I remember one day after school my dad, who works with technology, sat me down and told me that I should get an email account. Thinking back now I wonder why he thought a fourth grader would need an email account, but I signed up for one without hesitation. After that moment you could not drag me away from a computer if you tried. I surfed the web before school, after school and sometimes at lunch with my friends. I used the internet mostly for games and to email funny youtube videos with people when I was younger. Since my first experiences using the internet things have changed. As I became older I found new uses for the internet and new social media accounts to …show more content…
I still enjoy my time on the internet, but not nearly as much. Not only has the way I use the internet and social media changed but so has the way I access it. I used to only be able to get on the internet with a computer, now my smartphone allows me to go on any social media account I want whenever I want. Although this is convenient it is not always the best. It is very easy to become distracted by your smartphone. The accounts that I use now are mainly my email accounts, my facebook account and my instagram account. I have had all of my social media accounts for at least four years or longer so the ways in which I use all of them have changed over time. The way I use my social media accounts of email, facebook, and instagram have all changed over time and this change directly reflects my transition from childhood to …show more content…
I signed up for this account when I was a freshman in high school. When I first got the account I used it for posting pictures of places I went on vacation, friends, family and my sports teams. I also use it to follow things and people that interest me like celebrities, food blogs, and nature photos. The way I use my instagram has not changed very drastically since I have gotten it. I use it now to find friends and stay connected with what they are doing. I also use it sometimes to find recipes and about events. The way I use instagram has not changed as much as the things that I follow has changed. Instagram is my favorite social media account that I have. I use it all the time just because I like to see what other people like to post. Sometimes I use it too much which can be a bad thing but when it is used in moderation I think that it is a useful social media

Whether the world wants to admit it or not, the internet has truly taken over our brains. Not in the sense of complete control, but it does change the way that we think. Ms. Ham and Mr. Standage focus on how trends draw people out of their normal social interactions and into a world that seemingly revolves around themselves (We Shall Overshare, Mary Ham 280).
