As I mentioned before, my reasons for trying to understand health were superficial. I simply started because I wanted to look better. Just like any other goal, the results of my efforts weren’t immediately tangible. There were times when I was discouraged and questioned whether the process was worth undertaking. Sure enough, however, the number on the scale moved and the composition of my body changed. In this regard, it is the process that creates the impact on me, not just what I see in the mirror. Fitness has transformed into a force much greater than looking aesthetic. But most of all, it has taught me to find the courage to trust in myself and my ability in the face of doubt and fear. It helps me to understand that there is never room to be complacent and that walking headstrong into uncomfortable, new endeavors will lead to personal growth. I have forged a very positive outlook on life and its opportunities because of the lessons that I learned in this field. Whether I am taking up a new skill, trying to improve my professional marketability, or learning new material in class, my fitness journey reminds me that starting something is always the most difficult part.
