I don’t remember a lot about my younger years, but from pictures it looked like a blast. I do remember wanting to be just like my older sisters. I started showing animals in the second grade for our local and county fairs. I instantly fell in love with my show pigs and steers and would spend as much time in the barn as possible. I still continued to play Little League softball and play volleyball for a club team. I continued to show and play sports throughout my middle school and junior high school years. During high school I ran track and cross country while continuing to show animals, and taking Advance Placement courses. One of the biggest challenges I had in high school happened during the district track meet my freshman year, I hit a hurdle and could not finish the race. I was devastated considering I was seconds away from breaking the school record. I soon found out that I had moved a ligament in my foot and would have to have two screws put in my foot. This means I would be out the rest of the track season and would have to go through extensive physical therapy. This campus would be more like home since it is in a smaller town like Needville. When touring the campus for the first time, I absolutely hated it. However, I met with one of the professors in the Ag Department and she made me feel like this school was truly my “home away from home”. She let me sit in on her class, took my sister and I to lunch, and gave us an in depth tour of the 4,000-acre ranch. After all of this, she also introduced me to three other Professors in the Ag Department. They were all so helpful, and were genuinely excited to meet with
